Re: Fender Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster

I like most Korean Fenders I've played so I don't see why this one would be the exception. One thing to check though is that is it Korean or Indonesian? Because Fender has moved a couple of Korean models to Indonesia. The carved top, set neck, HH Teles for example.

Maybe you should get an SG or a Flying V with Strat single coils just to keep everybody on their toes.

I've been gassing for a 3xSC Flying V with a trem...Yngwie Malmsteen has one or two set up that way...early non fine tuner Floyd with the angled Strat jack.

As far as single coiled SGs go, I've seen David Ryan Harris (John Mayer's band) play the sexiest Pelham Blue SG Melody Maker ever...one like this one:

I have one in my hands... you probably need one. Very nice throaty but bitey P-90 sound. I like the semi-hollow swamp ash with mahogany neck - makes for a peculiar hollow yet slightly nasal P-90 twist that's very addictive. Add a little analog delay and you're in a swamp somewhere. A swamp filled with creatures with nasty sharp pointy teeth.

Re: Fender Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster

The finish looks cool and that's it.

I don't like those Gibson bridges; I'm too used to Fender vintage and modern Tele and Strat bridges.

Not too fond of this perticular Tele body coupled with an SG/LP control layout.

Never liked set-neck design.

Never liked F-Holes.

The pups do look pretty cool though. I would rock those pups in a heartbeat.

Not dissing the guitar; I just don't like some of it's attributes. :scratchch

Astro, if you like it, and the other guitarist in your band is saving up for it, go for it! You guys will have matching guitars! :cool2:: private:

Re: Fender Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster

Well YEAH...SG's aren't Tele's.

Fine Xander, you win. You sure as hell won't see me carrying my Jaguar around in a pillow case though. :)

Yeah, Fender used to make an Esquire (from indonesia) I'd sell my soul to own.

OH MY ****ING GOD! a contoured tele with a badass paint job and an invader in the bridge? might as well have my signature on the back of the headstock!

I seem to remember the guitarist in Weezer playing an SG like that on their first two albums. I saw one at Sam Ash in NYC and flipped out.

This is the best visual description of a guitar's tone ever. SD should put that in their info for the custom p-90.

I saw a few clips online and found the sound pleasing. Would it work for me? I don't know. Maybe not. Will it work for my buddy? I guess so.

I feel kind of weird about it. Why? Because I'm Fender Obsessed. I own a couple of guitars, but for me, at the end of the day, it's really about my Jaguar, Tele and Strat. (basses too! i've got 2 Precisions).

So it's weird for me to see this Gibson dude (LP and SG owner) suddenly pickup a tele. Maybe it's because it's similar to what he has... I don't know. Honestly though, I think he should save up for an amp. Like I am. He plays a Fender 212 FM, the black one. It sounds decent... but if we're trying to seem pro, shouldn't we have pro gear?

Er, what does the Korean Fender do that your Epiphone TDL cannot? (Apart, obviously, from the P90s.)

Why not kill several birds with one stone by selling your Epiphone to your bandmate? Direct him towards the nearest SD pickup stockist to get a P-Rails. Squander the proceeds of your Epi sale on one of those dream American Fenders that you want for yourself? ;)

I don't think he'd be into that. He just really wants a telecaster for some stupid reason. I think it's more aesthetic than sound related.:banghead:

Re: Fender Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster

Very cool looking guitar, I like the whole idea of it. Have you played any of the Tele Jr's, they are total badazz!!!

Re: Fender Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster

I think those things are rockin'! I prefer the red ones to the black ones, but if I wanted a Tele with P-90's, that's the one I'd go for.

Forgive me. I am middle aged. I have forgotten what it is like to get faddy about guitars based upon appearances or celebrity endorsements. I only care about sound and feel.

:lmao:

"Why are you going to play a tele when you've got that badass strat?"

Because it sounds like this:

that really is the reason behind my tele. Andy Summers and The Police
I LOVE THAT MAN'S TONE

I put a flanger on mine and it's the exact "So Lonely" sound. Pure watery bliss.

Erm, Summers did own more than one electric guitar in 1977. The Police hired in some of the gear for recording "Outlandos D'Amour". OTOH, the flanger sound during the solo on "So Lonely" does sound VERY like the ol' mains-powered dark grey MXR pedal with four knobs.

yeah I know it isnt the only axe he ever had, but ive seen a bunch of photos of him with it, so that image is burned onto my mind.

that IS flanger on so lonely right?

Re: Fender Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster

I like that axe a lot. There are a bunch of features on it that you don't see anywhere else.

Just off the top of my head...
A Tele, or any Fender for that matter, with P-90s.
A Fender with a set neck.
A Tele with an LP control layout. I love the toggle up there.
That trans-black on Ash finish looks unusual and sexy.
Semi-hollow body with P-90s.

Very true. I wish it had a nitro finish though. :( this guitar is starting to grow on me... but I need a Fender tube amp first. :banghead:

Nitro would make about as much difference as a fart in a hurricane.

That thing is gonna sound the way it does cause of the way it's built (set neck, ash body, dual HBs, stopbar/TOM, LP controls, etc.) instead of how it's finished.

Isn't nitro a thinner finish though? I saw it because of feel.

Re: Fender Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster

It might feel different, and it would certainly wear more, but soundwise it probably would be one of the smaller factors.

ooooh...

I still can't decide if I want this guitar, or a tele deluxe, or a jazzmaster.
