This is a post-1991 "Fender" branded Lace Sensor (Counter-sunk label & three wire.) I believe it is a Gold but perhaps the logo is faded. The baseplate is same construction as the pic below. Its 2.2k DCR measurement seems pretty low- per Lace's website, a new gold sensor should be ~5.8k DCR.
Were early sensors constructed differently than modern ones resulting in this low DCR? (Either wound with less resistance, or with a capacitor or some component that affects DCR?) Is it possible (or likely) the coil has somehow shorted internally?
To be clear it does make sound- it's quite "vintage" in output though (Full disclosure- I've only tested by alligator clipping it to a jack and holding it up against another guitar's strings so no pots connected etc.) If I hold it about the same distance from the strings as the pickup would be when mounted, it *appears* to have a similar amt. of output as a ~5k Strat pickup set installed in one of my other guitars.
EDIT: In the meantime I emailed Lace to ask the same question, and also inquire on a possible rewind/repair; they're only a city away from me so we'll see what happens.
