Any opinions - positive or negative - on these Eighties models? By now, they must almost qualify as "vintage".

Has anyone ever tried a P90 on them?

A friend had the two SC pup model, the II, I think? I liked it. Felt good, sounded decent.

Never tried a P90 in one, but a friend has an old Mustang (similar body size) w/a P90, and it sounds killer! I think that would be a lot of fun.

I haven't played one in 20 years but for the most part I thought they were pretty cool guitars. Every once in a while I'll check ebay and gbase to see what's around.

If you can find one for a decent price (which I don't see why you couldn't) you're in for a great guitar.

I happen to be of the opinion that all those early 80s Fenders were gems in their own way.

The vintage market really hasn't discovered them yet, so they're still for the most part pretty affordable.

I learned to play on a Lead ll. Heavy. No chambering or swiss cheesing, or any of that mess, this thing was an anchor.

The pickups were very hot for the time, but you could find way more oooomph in a set of Quarter Pounders these days. The Lead ll had a switch to go from series to paralell, so there were 4 distinct sounds available.

The laquor on almost all of them would have checked all over by now, but you either like that, or you can re-finish. That stuff takes a long time to get off of there.

I still have the neck from mine, and a Strat body here to put it on. I just have to fill in the trem/bridge route and get a hardtail bridge and some guts.

I'd say if you find one under $400 to go for it.
