Fender / Meguirs Kit

Hi

I just wanted to check if the Fender Instrument kit is safe to use for a poly finish, is this abrasive at all and will it remove any finish?

Re: Fender / Meguirs Kit

It won't hurt anything on a poly finish. It's basically car polish and a poly finish is basically an automotive finish. You'd actually be better off just buying straight up car polish and cutting the licensing deal out altogether. It differs very little, if any, and costs a lot more.

That or stick to guitar polishes that don't mention car care products. Either way will save you some dough.

Re: Fender / Meguirs Kit

i have and use the fender meguiers kit and use it all the time no problems at all and it works well.

Thanks

just to confirm that the Swirl and haze remover is safe and non abrasive (wont remove finish)

Re: Fender / Meguirs Kit

I haven't actually used it, so I'd go with what Mike said. He's got several guitars to keep shined up, but they always look immaculate when he posts pictures of them.

Re: Fender / Meguirs Kit

I've used Meguiar's Quick Detailer Mist (made for use on cars) on all of my guitars for years with no ill effects.

Re: Fender / Meguirs Kit

Ive had a bad experience with it, its left hard pieces of some unknown substance on some parts of my guitar and the regular spray polish started smelling like its fermented. It leaves the whole guitar really shiny smooth so thats the cool part. :offtopic: Why is wax bad for a guitar finish?

As long as the finish is poly, it shouldn't be bad for it. It's pretty much the same thing as an automotive finish. Nitro is a bit more sensitive, though, and probably shouldn't have silicone based products used on it.

Re: Fender / Meguirs Kit

i've used everything in the big kit they sell on all my guitars from my les pauls to my super strats with no problems at all. the swirl remover is not harsh enough to do any real damage if you use it correctly. it's also not harsh enough to get out all the marks but it will get a lot of them out.

Thanks just want to know if it will remove or damage the finish

Poly finshes are amongst the most durable. You'd be hard pressed to damage that finish with any of Meguiars products excluding the most hardcore coarse rubbing compound. Pretty much the only thing that will remove a poly finish is sandpaper and/or chemical stripper, and even then it's hard to remove the finish.

It will not remove or damage the finish. You can go to town with the Meguiars kit all day and night...you'll be fine.

Also...I'm guessing by "poly" you mean polyurethane, but there are polyester finshes as well. Both are very durable. Polyurethane will polish better.

Re: Fender / Meguirs Kit

I mean they sell it to polish guitars with. If it they sell it as a guitar polish it's safe to assume it'll polish a guitar.

Re: Fender / Meguirs Kit

I use it on my guitars with no ill effects. If you want a better swirl remover use 3M cleaner wax. Medium Oxidation. It works really well and cleans better than most over the counter waxes. Don't use it every time you clean your guitar use it occasionally. It works great for getting the arm mark off the upper portion of the body where your forarm rests!
