solid state.. i dont care how loud it is, i want tubes! no solid state amp got even close to simulating tubes, so why go for it?

so what if it has 550W? it's tone is probably sterile and lifeless anyway. not my cup of tea

now we're talkin :D

and godknows how much that fender costs anyway.. for that money you could prolly get a kickass mesa used

Re: Fender MH-500 Metalhead

I wish that Mesa and Krank's weren't 1500 dollars! :blackeye: I know that your paying for American Made and quality but still...same with Marshalls, but they are mostly just name.

Another tube amp snob! LOL....You obviously haven't been doing any homework with regards to "some" of the newest SS stuff....Just ranting about how SS sucks,is totally coming from out of context! I have quite a few tube amps, and you are very entitled to your opinions, but don't just bash something, especially when you really don't have any knowledge base to back this up.... :smack:

The tube amp mentality starts to get pretty boring these days....LOL :) No one has told me that the tones I've been getting through my Fender Cyber Twin that I've owned since 2001 or my new Vox Valvetronix head through a V30 4x12 cab sounds like a$$?......This is coming from a guy that has been using tube amps for over 30 years.....Sorry brother, but I needed to say this...You'll get pissed, but you'll get over it also!

well, not a tube amp snob.. i have yet to own one, but all the ones i can get my hands on (SS amps) suck.. why waste my money on something that might not work for me when i can get a nice older tube amp?

no worries... i know that these new modeling amps kick ass. i had the line6 gutiar port (not an amp, but i got kickass tones out of it anyway)

the thing is. i wont dish out 1500$ for a head that isnt even a modeling amp, when i can get a very nice tube combo (all i can afford and can have ATM..if i get a halfstack i get thrown out of the house)

i REALLY get what you're refering to, it's just me right now, who really DOESNT want to have another SSamp. no matter if it's a good one or not. i want to go all tube with my next one

As I said brother, you are more than entitled to your opinions....This $600 Valvetronix head I've used on 2 gigs and I gotta tell ya,it's a great sounding amp...A tube amp is always going to cost you more money, but it isn't going to necessarily make you sound better?

An old vintage fender is going to set you back well over 1.5k also, but nothing wrong with wanting a tube amp either..

As far as I'm concerned by today's standards on gear....It's getting pretty hard to just say SS amps "suck"....There was a time not that long ago where I wouldn't even plug into anything that lacked tubes, but the SS stuff is getting scaringly close...I know cause I Own 2 SS style amps already....

It's all good buddy and I didn't want to create any hard feelings or tension between us! I have my own opinions on lots of things also...

No, it's not a good point as John pointed out. As with anything you really need to try one out yourself to see if it would be right for you. There are a lot of good sounding SS amps lately. Even "tube snobs" agree that many SS amps can sound good at lower levels. And with 550 watts to play with I'd imagine those "lower levels" of what sounds good are vastly increased.

I haven't actually tried one but it seems to me that it's a direct competitor to Marshall's Mode 4. Seems to target the same audience and feature similar technology. And as they seem to target the new metal scene mostly, some agree that SS can provide a tighter and more compressed metal sound than tubes typically deliver. Try one out, it may be your cup of tea.

Re: Fender MH-500 Metalhead

I've owned some really bad solid state amps in the past, also had one that I liked quite a bit, But nothing stops me from wanting this new Fender Metalhead.
Maybe it has something to do with me playing Fenders, and also being a metalhead, but I seriously want one, prolly won't ever be able to aford it, but oh well, still want one.
Rock On! :smoker:

Re: Fender MH-500 Metalhead

The guys at Sam Ash told me yesterday that most of the folks buying amps "lately" are the younger crowd....High Schoolers and folks in their 20s....The Mode 4 and the Metal Master are geared towards those buyers...

Sam Ash also had 0 Boutique amps, but they also had plenty of smaller combo and beginner amps? You have to stock what you can sell....

I think 550 watts it total overkill, but the younger guys might like that?

I can't comment on either of these 2 amps, simply because I've not plugged into one or have heard anyone playing through them?

They look cool though....

it's a sad thing really.. the VOX that you got (120W head right?) costs 1100$
over here.. i was all over it when i tried it, but the price stomped me.. and you cant get these ones used anywhere here

i was looking more in the lines of a 50W JCM800 combo

ok..so i was a bit out of line .. =P thing is, i got no use for it. (i wonder what the price is though) i'm fed up with SS amps, no matter how good they are. i want a tube one.i see the use of these new generations of amps and how they're great and all, but i'm stubborn LOL
