Fender Modern Player Tele Plus

I'm a long-time bass player and part-time guitar strummer, but I couldn't resist buying one of these new MP Tele Plus guitars. The reviews are stellar and the price was right. I admit that from the very start, I had the intention to upgrade the pups to SD's. I bought quarter pounders for the lipstick neck and the middle start pickups, and based on the recommendation of one of the techs at the shop where I bought the guitar, I got a Pearly Gates for the bridge. The neck and mid pups were simple drop-ins, but I've hit a snag with the humbucker. The Fender has four leads while the PG has 5, and I'm told the colors don't correlate. I just want to remove each Fender wire and solder the new wire, one at a time, so I don't screw it up, but I haven't been able to find anyone who can tell me what Fender color equals what Seymour Duncan color. The 5th wire is bare, so I'm assuming that's a ground.

So where the Fender green wire goes, I solder the SD black wire, etc? Am I thinking correctly?

Re: Fender Modern Player Tele Plus

I think so. I just upgraded to SD. The green is the ground and often comes with sheilding strands that I have soldered together. i don't split my hb pups so I just solder the connection between red and white and insulate it. If you decide to split the pups on a SD i beleive you just use the completed soldered white and red connection. I haven't got that far on my mods yet. Black is the hot signal. Pretty sure my first SD encounter was me thinking that black was ground. Needless to say it caused a minor headache.
