Good-day
I am in a little bit of a conundrum; I have a completely stock '69 Mustang (in pretty good shape) in which the switches and pots are getting a little tired. I never really liked the PUPs in it that much (too "surfer" for me), or the front jack, so I am contemplating doing some major mods on it.

A new pick guard without the phase and pup selection switch, new pups (haven't thought too much about them yet maybe lil' 59s), a new control plate with a 3 way switch volume and tone and (the biggy) drill a hole for a side mounted jack.

Just asking what you guys might do, keep or sell the original instument, maybe upgrade the pots and switches, hang it on the wall and play it once in a while, sell it, or make it into something that I will WANT to play.

doing those or any mods will cause the value to drop prety far...Now, it's not worth as much as a 69 Strat or Tele but, a stock 69 Mustang could bring as much as $700-900. Now, if you like everything but the sound, and you want to keep the guitar I say keep it, mod it, and enjoy it...if you don't like the guitar in general, I would say sell it, and but something else you might like better...

Looks like a cool instrument that might need some cash to get it up to spec. As you've already seen, there's enough interest if you're willing to sell it (even you've got me interested :) ).

I would suggest constructing another scratch plate with the controls and pickups you want, then swapping the old one out. That way, if you ever wanted to sell it, you could just put the old scratchplate and assembly in with minimum of fuss, and couple of solder joints.

Yeah I was thinking about just getting a new pickguard and control plate, loading them up with new pups and electronics and keeping the old one "as is" so I could always sell it as "original". I enjoy playing the guitar, just not much of a fan of the sound (although I have had the thing for over 20 years), and I hate the front facing jack. I would be a great guitar for my kids to learn on, but if they treat it the way I treated my Dad's guitars....

Ahhh those little decisions in life!!!
