Can somebody give me the lowdown on Mustangs - what all the switches do and what they sound like.

I've come across a 90's CIJ on Fleabay thats caught my eye because its in a very fetching sparkly blue!:)

Re: Fender Mustangs

ok... I'm the go to mustang man here. Apparently. Well, no one else has replied :D

From my experience, the MIJ instruments are GREAT, even though they're made of basswood (til recently... they switched to poplar, hells yeah)... is the one you're looking at with the comp stripe? if so DOEET!!! :D ...anyway, the switches are simple.

front switch controls the front pup, back switch the back.

flip the switch in any direction to turn that pup on. middle pos is off.

put the switches in the same direction for both pups. in phase... put the switches in opposite directions for both pups out of phase...

eventually you get quick with it and can do both switches with one hand and be just as quick as anyone with a 3 way, and have more tonal possibilities :) (Careful. Mustang playing can lead to 3 ways ;))

(and btw the tonal possibilities are GREAT... Mustangs sound fatter than strats typically, with a bridge that's just as stable and with more range, more of a Gibson feel and sound than a strat actually... My favorite tone is both pups on in phase, but all the other sounds are cool too ;) IMO if more people tried Mustangs (especially Gibson players) they'd love them.

...Any more questions? :smokin:

Re: Fender Mustangs

Lu B, I had a 65 that just plain ruled. One of the sweetest Fender necks I ever played on, and the neck pickup was original and sounded heavenly. I sold it because it needed to be stripped, painted, and a new bridge pickup. I have two strats and at the time a mint 66 Duo Sonic that was all original, so the Stang went. If the 90s guitars are half as good as the one I had I'd say get it and have you some fun.

Big Black is right also. Don't post the link. Just some pics. Trust us on that one. Edit your post and remove that link, lol.

Re: Fender Mustangs

Check the serial number on that, pretty sure those particular Comp Stang's were not made in the 90's but made in 2002.
