So im still trying to decide on what to get for my strat

I do love the Nile rodgers type chime

SSL-1 or would the jimi hendrix signature by fender be good? They essentially are American vintage pickups

Re: Fender or Seymour?

Fender wont let you exchange pickups if you dont like them. Duncan will. Nuff said.

Re: Fender or Seymour?

I would go with the Hendrix pickups... but that's my preference and more of the sound I'd rather out of the 2 you mentioned... I think the ssl is more like a fender noiseless pickup. I'm not 100% on that but I'm pretty sure.

Re: Fender or Seymour?

American vintage 65?

Sorry if I was unclear, I mean that the SSL-1s are not similar to Fender Noiseless. They are far better. (and true single coils)

I think any of the following would make you happy, Duncan Jimi Hendrix, Duncan Psychedelic Strat, Fender CS69, Fender Pure Vintage 65.

Re: Fender or Seymour?

The ssl1 are very good sounding pups. I can't say the same about the fender noiseless. Some people like em but not me. There are plenty of great sounding pups for what you want. I wouldn't recommend the fender noiseless

Re: Fender or Seymour?

I'd go with the SSL-1. Noiseless just makes it so much more versatile in case you want to play with some more gain. A nicely voiced stack like the SSL-1 should give you plenty of single coil chime.

Re: Fender or Seymour?

The SSL-1 or really, any vintage sounding Strat pickups we make can get righteous funk sounds. The Antiquity II Surfer set can do it, as well as the Hendrix set & Psychedelic set. You may not need to go for super specialized pickups, as that sound can easily be found on the SSL-1.

Re: Fender or Seymour?

For clarification: SSL-1 is true vintage single coil, not stack, and not noiseless.

Re: Fender or Seymour?

Correct. If you need noiseless then the classic stack plus is a good option

Re: Fender or Seymour?

ssl1. Perfect for that stuff and great for many other things too. Gorgeous pickups.

They are really good. But also very picky about the distance to strings. Getting the overall height and tilt right is crucial to get them work like they should.

So one shouldn't discard them too quickly if they don't seem to sound and feel right.

Re: Fender or Seymour?

I haven't played the SSL 1 so I can't throw my 2 cents on that... But I'm currently working with the STK S7 in the neck and STK S4 in the middle of my strat. I know not they're not "real" singles, but so far I'm diggin them. Strat tones for days.. and dead quiet
Just to give you more options...

Lots of love here for the SSL-1's. Do the SSL-2's sound exactly the same, just with modern non staggered poles?

Re: Fender or Seymour?

They sound the same to me. I prefer the SSL-2 with a modern radius and string sizes.
