Fender pickup mag -- circa 1994

I'm going to do a rewind for one of the members here of a couple of Fender Strat pickups (flat poles/radius) from a '94 American Standard. Does anyone know what magnets they used?

As I recall, they sounded pretty thin and weak so I'm thinking Alnico 2. True?

Hey Todd. Thanks for that one. Unfortunately that page covers only vintage Fender pickups. It mentions the use of Alnico but not the number. My guess is Alnico 5 for vintage pickups. I'm just surprised on the lack of info out there on newer American Standard Strats.

Re: Fender pickup mag -- circa 1994

I'm no expert, but I *think* that the seventies Strat pickups were a2 and wound very weak (except the bridge.) I could be all wet. I don't believe the American Standards were a2. I also remember reading somewhere that some of the early Fender mixed magnets (a3 and a5, possibly a2) much like the Duncan 5/2. Again I'm no expert, so take this with a grain of salt.

I've read about Jimi's and yes, some believe they were A2, but we're talking about modern day American Standards.

How about the ones post-1986? That's the era that's gray.

Yeah, that's a gray area for a lot of manufacturers except for the processor makers. It seems that all tone was plastic and processed than. I liked it.....

Re: Fender pickup mag -- circa 1994

I do remember reading something from Fender (a long time ago) where they said they used Alnico III magnets.

FWIW, I have 2 complete sets of polepieces from 2 90's era Strat pickups. I honestly can't remember the year. If you need them, shoot me a PM and we'll work something out.

Thanks guys. Don't need them, just want to know what the heck they are.
