Fender Princeton 65 Reverb Reissue!

Finally got to demo one just yesterday. Lovely amp! I was in a little niche looking for a Fender 57 but I'm really in love with this amp now. Loads of headroom and a street price of about $750-800 new. Beautiful clean and dirty sounds. Reverb is all you would expect from a great accutronics unit. I'm going to buy it even though I don't need it.

Re: Fender Princeton 65 Reverb Reissue!

yea I was totally impressed with the Princeton Reverb Reissue. I went the route of paying a little extra and getting a beefed up Princeton Reverb clone, with a 12" 80 watt weber speaker, all handwired and stuff and a few other mods including a standby switch. Should come in about a week, I'm sure excited.

But the stock Fender PRRI is a thing of beauty. It's built in Corona, Cali with all the other american fender stuff FYI. Really killin' amp. I don't like small tweed amps like the stock 5E3 deluxe circuit (not enough headroom), but I like the higher wattage ones (bassman, twins etc).

Yep! One single thing about that amp I would change. Not too impressed with the 10" Jensen in there. Where did you get your clone?

Re: Fender Princeton 65 Reverb Reissue!

I was underwhelmed by the one I tried. Nice enough cleans and reverb, but the pushed tones were a bit ratty (and I love small 6V6 amp overdrive). I far prefer the deluxe reverb they do, and that needs a seaker and tube swap to really come together.

Re: Fender Princeton 65 Reverb Reissue!

The PR and DR are my two favorite amps.

But you guys should wait for the Mission Amps version which will be my signature model.

These will be based on my heavily modded PR's and DR's which have much more of a Vox/Marshall flavor - although they clean up beautifully and retain the classic vintage tone as well. I guarantee you that they will blow away any stock PR or DR regardless of the era that they were built.

I use the celestion G12H30 in my DR and the Weber C10NQ or C10NT in my PR. But my signature amp based on the PR will be available with a 12" Celestion G12H30 or G12-65.

I just can't seem to get Bruce started on this project though! If you're interested write to him at Mission Amps and express your interest. For some reason he's not convinced that there's a market for this amp.

BTW, I am not an owner of Mission Amps. Bruce is my brother, but I don't get a penny from Bruce - just great mods and great work on my amps. (Which I pay him for, just like everyone else.)

awww man, sounds sweet. I emailed him about a princeton reverb type amp before I pulled the trigger and he sent me to fargen. But fargen would not do it within my budget, which is a bummer, I'm sure they sound amazing. I was originally get a tweed clone (like a Pro-lux - beefed up 5E3 around 30 watts but still in a small package), but I had a change of heart and really wanted a smaller blackface type amp.

So I went with Vintage Sound Amps, their VS112P model. http://www.vintagesoundamps.com/

I'll write a review once I get it in... I'll probably be recording my college demo with the amp, so I'll definitely post that up if i find time

I went to a local retailer and asked for a better price than the $800 tag price and I was told $750. It was brand new. Great price if you ask me. I wouldn't pay $900 because I definitely think a speaker change is in order.

Re: Fender Princeton 65 Reverb Reissue!

i think it would match up nicely with my vox ac15. one for dirt, one for clean!!

Re: Fender Princeton 65 Reverb Reissue!

webers 10a150t is a fantastic 10" speaker that would sound killer in a princeton

Re: Fender Princeton 65 Reverb Reissue!

If this is another PCB 'reissue', you can have it. I'll buy two or three vintage Ampegs for the price they want for that...

While the Mission Clone may be a good amp, I highly recommened buying an Original Fender. There is nothing that compares to the Real Deal.

I fail to see how a well made PCB is inferior to a handwired amp. If anything at least you get consistency. I also know Ampegs can be great amps but they don't sound like a Princeton.

It is a well known fact, that when done right, a PCB sounds just as good as PTP. Fender knows how to do it right.
