Fender Princeton - The most recorded amp

I've heard or read somewhere that the Princeton is the most recorded electric guitar amp. At least that's what I've heard on some Fender propaganda. That may have been true in the late 60's and 70's, but do you think that's still true? What amp would take 2nd place?

These days in rock it's probably the Mesa REctifier series or the PEavey 5150/6505.

2nd place, has to be the Marshall stack. The Plexi in the 70's, the JCM 800 in the 80's.

Once you get out of the MTV/clear channel world... not so much with the PV & Boogies. That's a relatively small segment of the music world.

I've probably seen more Twins then anything else followed closely, or maybe tied with Marshall heads... probably the 800 series over 900's or JMPs. I can't recall making a record in the last decade + where those two specific amps weren't used at some point in the process... if not for the bulk of it.

Most recorded ever, not sure about that but I'd say it's for ure near the top of the list! LOTS of guys record with Princeton Reverb amps...they are small and easy to carry plus they sound great clean, sound great crunchy. take to effects well and they do record quite nicely...

Princeton? Marshall? I kinda doubt it. For the old time studio guys (when they did sessions all day), most of the NY stuff (45 singles, albums) was Ampegs, and Gibson was big in LA during the 50's-60's ala Roberts/Tedesco/Kessel. The modded Princetons and Deluxe Reverbs didn't really start up till the 70's...

+1 for Ampegs...every major studio in NY and NJ in the late 50's and all through the 60s had at least one Gemini and one B-15 on hand.

Actually the Princeton wins if you count separately all those 3,000 takes of each Steely Dan song recorded and erased before the final version was settled upon.

No way IMO.
I don't even know anyone that owns one of these anymore, yet everyone I know has Rectifiers, 5150s, Marshalls, ENGLS, Line 6 etc.
I'd say right now, probably the most recorded thing is likely to an amp simulator, such a Lin 6 POD.

one of my Favourite albums is a Princton on it.. at least in part... The Who's Who's Next is a mix of a Princton and a Hiwatt... the princton was miced up on the band floor and the Hiwatt was in a sound booth... they would take a mix of each amp...

Pete has used Fenders of all sorts in the studio... the album Face Dances screams small Fender amps to me...

Yeah, they were probably the most used back when the Princeton was in production and easy to get one for the studio. But it's been about 20 years since the Silverface ones were discontinued and the Rivera designed Princeton II came out. So there's a limited supply out there. Nowadays there are so many more good sounding low powered amps out there, and so many different ways to record, so it makes using an amp optional.

I will say that I never realized till I plugged into one 10 years ago, that that was the sound I had heard in my head as my ideal Fender clean tone.

Too bad, Princeton Reverbs rock. Christian and Lew convinced me to get one and I'm glad I did. Clean, it's very Fender and breaking up it's almost like the best of the British amps but not at WWIII levels. I heard Townsend and Gilmour recorded with them back in the day too. What more do you want? Foe anything less than metal they are a killer amp.

Yeah I love my Princeton Reverb clone, thing is a beast. Takes pedals extremely well, distorts nicely, perfect clean sounds, perfect tremolo and reverb.

Most recorded amp...don't kno much, but maybe a Tweed Deluxe or something or a Bassman? I guess Princeton and Twin verbs are up there too. All Fender amps pwn tho for da most part
