what gives?

It should add a sense of space and maybe with some slight hiss, but the word "buzzy" sounds like you have a problem there?:smack:

well, this is my second fender amp with reverb and both have this slight buzzing. i doubt it's a specific problem with this amp. i think it's a general fender thing.

1st off, Lets be a Lil' more specific. What Model amp is it? I've owned more than a dozen Fender reverb amps from BF/SF tube driven models to Red Knobs and a Hot Rod Deluxe where the verb is driven by Op-amps. The Verb in the Red knobs where kinda weak compaired to the rest , But I never heard any buzzing or annoying sounds from any of them? Accept for maybe having a bad driver tube.

so when you go from no reverb to reverb, without playing anything, you don't hear the buzz sound?

i've had a performer 1000 head and now a pro reverb.

A lot of amps with reverb introduce more hiss, the higher you set the reverb.
It's just the nature of a spring reverb being added into the circuit. However, most people set the reverb low enough that it's not even an issue.

The best thing to do is to use a high quality 12AT7 or AX7 for the reverb driver tube, if it's a tube driven spring reverb.

yes, i think the pro reverb has a tube for the reverb. good tip.

is groove tube the way to go?

Re: fender reverb....does it always have that subtle buzzing sound behind it?

Groove Tube? No.
RCA/GE/Brimar? Yes.

Re: fender reverb....does it always have that subtle buzzing sound behind it?

I've been playing BF Fender amps for many years and I don't associate buzzing with the reverb circuit...At least not in my amps? Hiss yep, buzzing no?

yeah, lets call it a hiss instead.:smack:

Re: fender reverb....does it always have that subtle buzzing sound behind it?

I usually just use JJ ECC83's for a reverb driver, just because I know it's quiet and reliable. I wouldn't ever put an expensive tube there. I save those for the 1st position tube. Most amp companies use the absolute cheapest tube they can find for the reverb driver.........they figure if it works, that's good enough.

Re: fender reverb....does it always have that subtle buzzing sound behind it?

Blackface Fender style reverb circuits DO ADD GAIN to the circuit. The reverb channel is always ballsier and richer in tone than the normal channel even with the reverb on zero. That gain the reverb circuit adds might also amplify a little inherant noise or hiss. That might be what you're hearing. Just like you'll hear a little hiss being amplified when you turn up the volume of your amp. Lew
