I got offered one of these in trade for a guitar I'm selling. Looks like it's from 2010, so not new, but I'm assured the frets are pristine and got 99.9% life left in them. I'm going to be checking it out in a couple of days in person anyway.
I normally don't like Strats, but I feel like giving one a shot. I figured this might be a good gateway experience since it's not super high-end expensive but not entry-level either. TBH, I've never really spent some quality time with one other than a friend's American Deluxe (nice) with a V neck (not so nice). But since I want to try new stuff, but I don't want to actually spend money, I figured this trade might be worth a shot.
Looks like this one is MIM (decent?), 9.5" radius (not ideal for me, but at least I know it's not unplayable it because my Classic Vibe Tele is like that), modern C neck (I'm guessing similar to my CV Tele?), and worn Nitro finish that looks cheesy as hell (and I kinda like it). Inca Silver with a black HSS pickguard, so at least I know I can drop any humbucker in there and not be stuck with single coil sized humbuckers or having to order a replacement pickguard. Not sure if the non-locking Fender modern tuners are any good? 6 point trem with bent steel (I think?) saddles, so I don't really love that, but oh, well.
I kinda like the looks of vintage-ish guitars nowadays, and I think this might be pretty left-field for playind Death Metal, so what the hell.
Just wanted to ask... what can I expect from these? Are MIM Fenders sort of along the lines of Korean-made instruments like the pricing and my very brief previous experience might suggest? Or are they more inconsistent? Is the Nitro finish in these any good? Are the worn necks good players? Am I going to have to get a fret level for it (seller says he's not had any work done on the frets at all)?
Like I said, I'm going to try it in person in a couple of days, but I would like to be preparred not to be caught of guard.... and honestly, I'm pretty excited and would love to talk about what you guys' experience with these guitars is!
Thanks!
