I have a 2005 highway one Strat and I look at everyone elses strat and they have different saddles. I think the ones on my guitar are junk. Im thinking of going with a Callaham Trem System. Any suggestions???

Re: Fender Saddles.

Put a set of Graphite saddle on that puppy. You will never break a string again!

Is there something your current saddles are lacking, and what do you want out of the upgrade? You need to address these questions before anyone can really help you.

Well my strings have broken a couple of times, the break right at the saddle point. The hardware is just lacking quality I think. Im not sven sure how to set intonation but even if I did the screws that are screwed into the saddle move back and forth alot when strings are off so Im sure it causes some tuning instability. My main thing is the damn thing wont stay in tune. I have the 2 screws screwed all the way in and have 5 springs in the back. What I want is something that will allow me to use the trem., and have it stay in tune and something that will keep it somewhat like a vintage thing. Even when I am very gentle and only do 1/4 or 1/8 dives the G string, especially, goes up a half or whole step. HELP!

Re: Fender Saddles.

the callaham stuff is top notch and a significant improvement over almost anything. the fender vintage ri bridge is a good unit also but i suspect that the callaham is still a little better, probably not enough to warrent the expense of replacing it.

if you question the quality of your bridge, the callaham would be a great option

Re: Fender Saddles.

Callaham is top notch but go for the graphtechs. The thing is that the strings react to the metall and rust when getting wet(read palm mutes).
Well, strings will rust anyhow but with graphite in the saddles you won`t get that metal to metal reaction and the strings will last longer :)

have graphtechs in mine:

I strongly agree. Callaham might be strat-heaven, and I like their concepts, but graphtech is the word in saddles. They're totally awesome.

As for Earvana, I recommend them for string nuts over Graphtech because their stuff is not only a highly slick non-metallic polymer (just not identical to graphtech), but it's compensated to fix the 1-6 frets minor intonation issues. I have one of their string nuts on my ESP (ESP factory retrofix, available through their website) and it rocks. I'll be saving up for one for my Strat next.

Since these items usually are aimed at fixing tremolo detune, you can follow up with locking tuners, and possibly a callaham tremolo block (not to block the tremolo, but the piece that joins the tremolo springs and the bridge base).

Re: Fender Saddles.

Weird, I've never had any problems with my saddles (MIM). I've only broke a string once or twice (3 tops) in the YEARS that I've owned it.

Re: Fender Saddles.

reason for my switch- string saddles protrude too much, lazy to file down, graphtech on sale... :6:

Re: Fender Saddles.

graphtechs are very cool, but they dont sound the same. the callaham stuff is good quality steel and to me is more responsive

Re: Fender Saddles.

Jeremy I have to agree. I had this dilema when I was upgrading my 94 MIM. I ended up with the Callaham trem block, new screws and the Callaham saddles....

The combination of those two, really opens up the sound on my Strat....

Great upgrades totally under $100.

Re: Fender Saddles.

I tried different saddles and must say that i have always come back to the Callahams.

I dont like anything but steel so far. good note separation, sustain, and overall sound.
I didnt personaly dig the graphtech stuff.

i am currently experimenting with Gotoh solid steel saddles instead of the stamped ones. Dont know if i like em more yet tho.

The graphtech doesn't give me clarity or sustain problems, or even overall sound problems. So far I get nothing but compliments, and the sound change is barely noticeable (at least to me).

Re: Fender Saddles.

see i notice a distinct change. not a bad one, but i prefer the steel

Re: Fender Saddles.

no i havent but ive seen em and i think id like em better but i dont break all that many strings.

Re: Fender Saddles.

yeah i couldnt say that the tone was bad either, just different.

I just love the sound of steel i guess. Yeah i dont break strings so much either, funny enough.
