I have a SD aps1 alnico II sc pup(bridge) that I want to install in the bridge position of my 1988 strat. Will the SD and Fender pups be compatable(in phase) in the #2 position(bridge+middle)?
If it's correct for Strat pickups, then Fender & Seymour-Duncan have the same winding direction & polarity for "normal" pickups. I'm guessing that your middle pickup is Reverse Wrap/Reverse Polarity (RW/RP) so that it's humcancelling when combined with either the neck or bridge pickups. Even if the middle pup isn't RW/RP, they should still be in phase.
I wrote "If" because Tele pups are inconsistent for both Fender and S-D. Supposedly Strat pups are more standard.
Primo, if the SD and Fender pickups are out of phase, just switch your mid and neck pickups. If the rw/rp is out of phase, the neck pickup will be the correct phase for the mid position.
Thanks for the responses! I installed the SD and it seems to be in phase. However, in the 2nd position there is no humcancelling. I'm narrowing it down to either reversing the wires or checking the ground. Any ideas?
