for those of you out there that may own this guitar. how is it routed under the pickguard? for sss or is it capable of droping a humbucker in without having to route? just simply get a new pickguard? im looking to do a tribute this month to my mom who we lost to breast cancer in 08. New they are like 129 bucks. So I dont mind to butcher it if need be. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BulletPNK/

Re: fender squier strat (sss)

hmm so there is some hope for my project. push comes to shove i can always drop a stacked bucker into it i suppose.

Re: fender squier strat (sss)

The black body looks exactly like a Crafted In Indonesia, Squier Standard Series Stratocaster body to me.

The Bullet model is Made In China. The pickup cavities and pickguard screw fit are almost certainly not the same.

Re: fender squier strat (sss)

Usually Mexico is higher quality than the other two.

Mexi's are higher up there, the Indo's are alright, earlier Indonesian squiers aren't too bad but you take pot luck with them.

Chinese ones are at the bottom but saying that I can't fault the woodwork on Sunrise, and All I did was replace the hardware and pickups.

Re: fender squier strat (sss)

I played a squier that was in the 379-399 range and it didnt feel too bad. Back in 2000 I bought a mexican strat for that price. Im looking to build a parts caster and im cruisin for bodies. trying to figure if its gonna be easier to go part by part or buy a full guitar and redo pickups and pots.

Re: fender squier strat (sss)

Depends. My Squier Classic Vibe was made in China and I like it better than my brothers 2 MIMs. In fact, the only guitars that have come close to it is the Classic Player models and above (twice the price of the CV). I even played 3 Am Std. Strats and only liked one better than my CV.

Love my guit.

Re: fender squier strat (sss)

Are there any serial differences between guitars imported to USA and those to the EU? Because majority of Squiers I've worked on had pool type routing. But not all of them, old Affinity models, CV's and anniversary runs were always more accurate.

Go and try one for yourself at your local shop. You can easily figure out what it is, just press the pickguard down firmly on 'strategical' locations. Or tap with with screwdriver handle.
Another way is by pure judgement and eyeballing. Cheaper Squiers with such routings also have flimsy Gotoh replica tuners and a very inaccurate Strat tremolo bridge with solid saddles that only resemble the stamped, original ones, but they are not the real deal. Again not all of them have these exact features.

Whatever you decide on it's still not that much work to reroute it if you're skillful and you have a router. Just go to your local woodworker and ask him to plane some profiles like 2x3 or 2x4 flat and make a routing jig of it. Or use a chisel :)

Re: fender squier strat (sss)

The one I had was universal routed. I was able to drop in a DD and 2 P90's for some awesome tones. Might do that again in the future.

Re: fender squier strat (sss)

dont know of many wood workers around this area. If routing is needed im confiident I can do it myself. the horrid job will be hidden by the pick guard.

Re: fender squier strat (sss)

my squier affinity with a little pick up change kicks butt! its pool underneath on mine, MIC
