Fender standard telecaster hh vs prs se custom 22/24

The guitars are:
Fender Mexican standard hh tele (alder body and maple neck)
Prs se custom 24 or 22 (mahogany and maple body and maple neck)

I am looking for something that will do rock and metal. I will mod it (change pickups and tuners).
I would change the pickups for a custom and a jazz. I also really want a guitar that can be knocked about a bit and will be durable.
Both guitars have coil split.
Which one would do the job best?
Thanks!

The PRS has a 25" scale neck, vs the Fender which has a 25.5" scale neck.

The constructiion used is also different.

If you can't afford both, I'd go with the PRS before. More frets, and the set you chose will work better. I went Custom/PGn on mine, wired for series/parallel.

If you go with the Fender, I would choose JB/59, since I'm not the greatest fan of the Jazz (which I have on a mahogany Dean V, also wired for series/parallel).

Either way you go, enjoy!

Honestly, both guitars will fit your specs just fine.

I'd really recommend playing these guitars in person. They will sit differently on you, and will feel different - matte finish on Fender neck vs. glossy finish on PRS neck, bolt-on vs. set neck heel, placement of controls, fixed bridge vs. vibrato bridge.

Both guitars are affordable, moddable workhorses. No clear winner.

You might want to take a look at the 920D store. They mod guitars, including Mexican Teles, and sell them for (naturally) higher prices than the stock versions. The mods typically involve locking tuners and known aftermarket brands like Seymour Duncan and Dimarzio. They might have a guitar in there already modded to your taste.

There IS a clear winner to me!

I would definitely go with the Tele. No question about it. A "workhorse" for sure (go ahead and knock it around and never worry about it), very moddable, great feeling, playable, quality. I hate to say it, but the PRS SE (as beautiful as it appears) just feels cheap, doesn't play very well, can't stay in tune, I'd be afraid of serious damage if it were ever to fall over.

The guitars are:
Fender Mexican standard hh tele (alder body and maple neck)
Prs se custom 24 or 22 (mahogany and maple body and maple neck)

Out of those two and for metal I'd choose the PRS. More ergonomic, better upper fret access, tremolo (if that's your thing), better split coil tones (the PRS pickups are designed sound good split and don't produce the kind of volume drop that typically comes with a split humbucker).

If you can swing it, I'd look at the S2 Standard 24 Satin. Big jump up in quality for a small increase in price, and if you can find last years model with HFS/VB pickups you won't need to upgrade them for metal.

Everyone might have different requirements, and I could tell you mine: It needs to be ergonomic, with a tummy cut, and the sloped forearm contour. 22 frets, as I like the sound of the neck pickup better. This would leave the PRS with 22 frets for me.

I bought a Mexican Tele HH little over a year ago.

I hate to say it but the stock pickups does not sound good at all, wery little clarity no matter how high or low i set them at, those needed to be replaced.
Mine came with a 500k vol pot and a 300k tone pot. I changed both to higher quality and both to 500k. Not needed but I wanted to.

The tuners are great no need to change them!

Go in a store and try them, when i bought mine there were 3 teles hanging there and they all sounding rather drastically different from each other. Spent a few hours playing them acoustically and plugged in. Thats just a tip for you, dont order it online.

Enden up with a Duncan 59 in the bridge and gibson p94 in the neck. Simply an awesome guitar!

Apologies for my bad english.

Don't apologize for your English, that's just fine. But you should apologize for you bad choice of pups for a Tele. But, hey, whatever rocks your boat, it's your guitar.
