A Boss DS-1 or Duncan Pickup Booster.

I'd go with the Pickup Booster along with one TS type pedal.

I like the Boss DS-1 (as anyone who's read my posts for the passed few years knows!) but when I use it, I use it like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai used it: I set it up so I can leave it on all the time and so I can then adjust the volume of my guitar to go from clean to overdrive.

I tend to set the distortion low, the tone at half or less and the volume at wherever it sounds right: usually half or more. I use it like a "rock tone conditioner"...it allows me to get a killer clean or killer overdriven tone at pretty much any amp volume by just manipulating my guitar's volume control.

I favor blackface Fender amps similar to yours too!

Cool Lew! Thanks for the tip! It reminds me of a set up I used way back in the late 70's. I used a Electro-Harmonix LPB-1 and a volume pedal. Kind of similar to what you suggested. I forgot all about it!
