Fender strat MIJ Re'54 dull??

I have this guitar for 7 years now, and i always fell the tone isn't bright as other Fender strat i've tried. I want the tone to open up.
It resonate well, it tend to emphasis at mid-low tone. I put Fender cs 54 pickups. Wonder if anyone have this experience. :scratchch

i have the same one, and know exactly what you mean..
i think it's part of the inherent response of the guitar, i've been tempted to get it refinished in thin nitro but it's quite heavy for a strat, thinking it wont make much difference!

maybe a new body? the neck's nice enough to justify it!

I have a newer one and it's not dull at all and is pretty even in terms of highs/mids/lows...plenty of low end thunk. Strat, do you have the 54s in it already? That's what came in mine.

I've even thinking to remove the finish but didn't have the heart to do it and don't know if its will improve the sound.
Replacing parts also came into my mind but the question is i don't know which part will make huge difference if replace.
Last month i saw new Fender Yngwie Malmsteen body in vintage white for USD 225. hmmmm... tempting

Fallstaf, i put cs54 to replace original jap pickups. Some say that Fender cs Fat50 is also good. The cs54 is nice IMO ,just add alittle bit of low definition will be nice. Yours is alder or ash body???

Mine is ash. If I was thinking of changing the pickups, I think I'd try one of the Lollar sets, maybe the Blackface.

You could always try having someone like OC Duff wind you a set.
