Fender Strat Necks

Okay, I am looking to replace the neck on my squier strat. You may be asking, why go through so much trouble to replace a neck on a squier? Because it sounds amazing, it was one of those projects where i replaced the bridge pick-up, didnt like it, so i took it out,..and now it sounds amazing with just a neck and middle pick up. Anyways, will fender strat necks fit a squier strat, and will it change the sound? I am looking to keep it rosewood, just a bigger neck because squier necks seem small in width to me? Any suggestions on a replacement?

Re: Fender Strat Necks

Older mexican necks can be nice. Every Jap neck ive ever played has been awsome, including my antigua strat neck. So id go with the Jap neck if can.

If it is a Squier the neck pocket will most likely be larger 2 and 1/4" as opposed to 2 3/16". This means either shimming or getting a custom neck built. Be careful. Nothing wrong with shimming if it's done right though!

I have a few newer Squier necks around... from the mid 2000's.... and i never noticed them being larger at the heel.... i have one neck on a body i machined myself out of lumber and i used a standard Fender Neck Pocket Stewmac router plate... Maybe some Squiers are larger but i wonder what ones.... it would not surprise me in the least if some models made during some periods are slightly different...

I like the feel of the Squier necks i have.... i have one on a Tele body and one on a Strat body... the tele was a Peavey body that i modded to work with the neck... and the Strat was a hand made body that i machined and painted... The one on the strat has the larger 70's style headstock

If i wanted to i know where i can get some more Squier necks as well for my project guitars... all slightly damaged...

Re: Fender Strat Necks

I only recently noticed this!

A mate needs a re-fret on his original Squire Tele. It's a '91 model, and given the UK average cost on a re-fret I said we'd try and find a replacement neck on e-bay. I measured it up and those are the measurements. I've spoken to a few people I know in the UK, and they confirmed my findings.

We're basically talking a difference that isn't particularly perceptable to the eye or feel of the neck, but to a Vernier guage it is.

Oh the neck plate is the same size, and screw holes common.
