Fender Strat Springs

Re: Fender Strat Springs

Nope.

The springs, trem, and bridge are the ground side of the guitar pickup circuit. Touching the tremolo springs is the same as touching the strings.

You can get zapped if you have incorrect wiring in your studio. Touching the guitar strings while touching a microphone when the two are amplified on different power circuits can jolt you good. But that has nothing to do with uncovered trem springs.

Rock on...

Yea at first I thought it will not shock me too but I'm not really sure. Because if it shocks me then the strings of my guitar will shock me too. Can you elaborate what you mean by "touching the guitar strings while touching a microphone"? So if I am singing while I play the guitar I can get shock?

You won't (shouldn't) get a shock if your equipment is properly grounded.

Back in the good old days, many amplifiers had a 3-position on-off-on switch that changed the phase of the AC power supplied to the amp. It was possible to get zapped but good if the phase of the guitar amp did not match the phase of the microphone PA. Newer equipment uses polarized plugs and other safety features to avoid this issue.

Another risk is when your equipment is not powered off of a single circuit (fuse/breaker) in your house. This is because (in the US, anyway) the 220V coming into your house is split into two 110V sides. Any given outlet in your house is connected to one side or the other of your fusebox. If your guitar amp is powered off one circuit and your PA off another that happens to be from the other side, you can get dangerous voltages between strings and microphones. It is best to power your entire studio off one circuit if possible, as this is safer and also less noisy in general.

You can test your setup with an inexpensive voltmeter. If you have any serious doubts or concerns, hire an electrician to check it out.

Long story short - It is as safe to touch the tremolo springs as it is to touch the strings themselves.

Re: Fender Strat Springs

If your guitar amp and PA are run off different wall sockets they could be reverse polarity to each other. When you are touching the strings and your mouth or other hand come in contact with the mic, you will get a nasty shock. Most amps have a reverse polarity switch that solves this problem or you can run both the PA and your amp thru the same socket.
