So, I had a customer come in and ask if I could install a distortion pedal into his guitar. After playing 7 different pedal he settled on the TS-9!

Thats cool. I dont know if I could do that, maybe with a Rat but even then I'm like ehh, just put the pedal on the floor. However if that was the only pedal he used, it is nice to just plug in so it might worth it. Nice work, hopefully he digs it.

Why he could not just step on it like the rest of us??? But that's what he wanted, so I did the work.

So is it like a pre amp but with EQ adjustments? I know guys who use a preamp boost built into the guitar but never a pedal installed in the guitar.

I think it's a cool idea. It gives the user the option to add in more or less distortion mid song without having to bend down to switch the controls. I might have to try this mod now!

Is there a quick way to activate it? Like a push pull or something? Not seeing a switch that you can just "flick"

So has the customer seen it yet? Sure hope he wasn't looking for something a tad less noticeable :lol:
Wondering now if maybe someone could make a low-profile concentric pot where the bottom knob was a wheel-type. That way this type of mod could be practically invisible, as long as the pots were replaced with the wheels.

He loved it. He even told me where he wanted the knobs.... Not my cup of tea, but I thought I would get others opinions. Cool idea... But why was my question. But, aren't the best inventions developed through trial and error.

As posted by Gibson175, GFS has been doing this for a while now. They give you the option of a push pull or a concentric pot for all your parameter controls. I'm quite sure that if you wanted to, you could do a bit of tinkering and replace these with rollers or a push push setting mounted similarly to an acoustic preamp on the side of the guitar.
IMO this concept would work much better in a larger 335 style body where you have space to place the controls or hide switches under the pickguard.

Of the wheel pots I've seen, it's basically the guts of a regular pot with a ridged wheel that drags the wiper across the contact surface. However, the hole in the center of the wheel is maybe 1/16". By using a larger hole in the wheel, it could be mounted as a replacement for the larger bottom knob of a regular dual-concentric setup, which means you can use a full-sized knob for the top half, unlike GFS's mini-knobs.
As well, you could have a discreet/nearly invisible mounting system so all the guitarists in the audience didn't know you had an on-board pedal.

With roller wheels though, don't they just use a regular sized pot on its side? And then just put the roller on instead of the knob? Because if that's the case then is shouldn't be that hard to fashion two wheels for a concentric pot.
I was planning on using this mod a while back and what I wanted to do was use 2 concentric knobs for the tone knobs on top and the gain parameters on the bottom while using a push pull on one of the volumes to turn it off and on. That would haw been the ultimate ninja overdrive
