Fender Stratocaster with the twang

I'm interested in a Fender Stratocaster with a good twang-sound like Knopfler, Hank Marvin and that country-sound in general...

Which models would you recommend?

Can I buy japanese Fenders in Europe?

Thanx!

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

If you want a twangy strat, put in a Seymour Duncan Twangbanger...makes a strat sound like a tele.

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

a strat sounds twangy off the rack, play the dirty side of your amp ,tweak yer tone and roll back your volume on the guitar and your there...........almost. its genetic its a fender.

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

Yeah of course does a strat twang, but I'm interested in the maximum-twang (no, I don't want no Telecaster, the shape isn't my fav...)

Which wood twangs the best?

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

i know that alder is used in a lot of fenders, but wood is funny ,tone and resonance can be effected by things like how much rain the harvested forest recieved, wood density ect ect ,but in the end its all about your ears and what you like and what you want.

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

Try the Japanese Strats (54 and maybe 57 reissues) that have the Fender 54's in them. The bridge is a bit hotter than the rest and twangs nicely.

A hardtail might work for you too if you can find one.

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

yea you cant realy go wrong if thats the sound your after if you start trying any of the 3 single coil models ,i have one american strat and one korean the korean is the one i put the sd pups in and it plays imo just as well as its 600 more dollars american made cousin

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

There is a nice 57 Japan Strat at the ebay shop, in Hamburg... 650€... but in the moment I don't have the money for it, I need a few good gigs to get money^^

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

You want maximum twang? Get an ash strat with an all maple neck!! Twang city!!

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

My hardtail strat twangs like a mofo (and I love the twang sound).

If you got one made of ash with a maple neck, you'd be able to get all that wonderful twang tone.

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

oddly i prefer the MIM Standard Pickups over a lot of vintage style Alnico Strat pickups... those stock cheap Ceramic magnet strat pickups in a MIM Standard Strat i love..... Maybe it's the output, maybe it's the chessiness of them.. no idea...

I also like the American Standard stock pickups better then some vintage reissues... slight more sparkle and output....

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

I've seen two interesting ones:
-the Fender Lite Ash Strat. It has an ash body, Seymour Duncans and is affordable.
-the Fender 70s Player Strat. No Duncans, but ash body and available in sunburst (my fav colour)

How do they play and how is the sound (and twang)?

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

the swamp ash body and maple neck are a good place to start. the g&l pups have a different tone than a classic strat but with the passive treble and bass controls you can probably get where you want to be

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

How about the Lundgren Twang strat pickups?

I don't want to change the pickups instantly after buying the axe, I want to know which one has that sound in stock more than another...

The main thing I'll play with it will be southern rock...

You're thinking too hard about it dude. Every Strat I've ever played has been twangy. Just go out and play some until you find one that fits you right.

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

Good advice EP. Also hands, hands, hands and more hands. There's lots of mojo in the hands.

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

Well, you're right. I think the best thing is I go to a store with enough strats and see what fits the best, every strat twangs, mainly for a humbucker-knight like me^^ I will see what I can get, I think it'll be difficult with japan strats...

Re: Fender Stratocaster with the twang

Don't forget your amp in the quest for twang. I play Strats all the time, but I don't go for the twang all the time, per se; for rock work I play a DSL. A good Fender (or similar) amp is crucial for maximum twang, IMO. I have a Hot Rod Deluxe for my twang needs and it does just fine for playing out (my Bandmaster doesn't leave the house). Just my 2 cents worth.
