Raise the bridge pickup a little.. since raising my action my pickups don't sound quite as thick or twangy, though on the weekend once some of my projects are finished I hope to fix that.

If you're prepared to, then lower the string guage. On some guitars, it makes it sound awful, but with a Fender Strat, it just adds to the clunky, twangyness that a lot of players use Strats for.

I found this out by accident the other day, I meant to buy some 10-46s, but bought 9-42s instead. While I can't play aggressive power chordy stuff, I can get some great twangy cleans.

No, he left Lynyrd Skynyrd 2005 and is playing with The Outlaws again. The new Skynyrd guitarman is Mark Matejka (since 2006).

A friend of mine owns this Mim Classic 50's strat in fiesta red, the greatest strat for the buck. Real nice build and I think might have the sound you're looking for.
