Re: Fender Super Sonic - NICE!!
i can't really testify to the prosonic because it has been years since i tried one of those out, but i can tell you that there is nothing less about the supersonic.
it's just a different amp, but just as good or better compared to the prosonic. one thing i noticed is that at cranked volumes (and this amp can get REALLY loud), it gets a bit more aggressive and gainy. it has its own sound that you can really distinguish from anything else. that's one of hte things i really like aobut it. there's a lot of character there.
it has plenty of gain and dynamics but remains articulate enough even with maxed out distortion. you can do the heaviest metal with this amp as it has plenty of drive, but there's something classy about the tone too so it's going to be quite a bit more organic than what you'd get from say a krankenstein or something.
i wouldn't take anything away from the supersonic compared to ANY other fender amp including the prosonic. i don't think either one is really better than the other. they're both different amps that do different things better than the other. overall, the ss is a very versatile amp with a great tone.
Many thought the SS was going to be a modernized Prosonic. That was not the case the SS is more"civilized" and user friendly. There is MUCH less gain smoother crunches and more clean headroom on the SS. The Prosonic is more raw in your face and aggressive. There is more gain in my Prosonic at 5 than the SS dimed.
It's not just high gain though the Prosonic is very "organic" and cleans up with the guitar volume quite well. The Prosonic is the most expressive and touch/tecnique responsive amp I have ever played bar none!
Here are a couple of clips with the Prosonic in different situations and un-miced
Outdoors in Florida on my Fender 2/12 with GT12 75 Celestians in the A/B SS rec 60 Watt mode http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=439224&songID=5312459
In a VERY small store front church at low volume in the Class A 30 Watt mode
