Fender Super Sonic

Anybody own/tried one of these? I'm thinking of getting one, seems awesome from all the information I've read, but I've yet to try one out. If it lives up to the hype it'll be just what I've been looking for.

Re: Fender Super Sonic

I haven't tried one myself but have been anxious to do so. I know that when they first came out there wasn't a whole lotta love for 'em. I think it was mostly people seeing the name "Fender" on an amp and expecting it to look and sound a certain way.

But more recently I've started reading some pretty good reviews and a few more level-headed opinions on them.

Re: Fender Super Sonic

WEIRD - I tried one and I hated it.... but I was looking for "that Fender sound"...

Re: Fender Super Sonic

I read a Guitar player review nd it seems like a decent amp and from what I've read I could see beck using it.

Re: Fender Super Sonic

Seems like the ultimate gig amp, in theory. I've seen a handful of negative reviews though. I've got a feeling it could be killer with a few mods, maybe a change of speakers. But lately I've been on that modding trip anyway, guitars, wah wah pedals etc...

Re: Fender Super Sonic

I tried one, and wept for i could never afford one. Nice looking too. Let it warm up nicely first though. And play it loudish when you test it.

Re: Fender Super Sonic

Obviously tone is subjective. One person may love what someone else hates. And after reading all sorts of intensely negative reviews for the same Genz Benz El Diablo that I love, I've learned to take all online reviews with a big grain of salt.

So if you cut through all the opinions and flames, the only real criticism I've heard is that there's no way to easily switch between a gain and more gain settings. Evidently there are two gain controls that are used simultaneously that "blend" together to create unique tones. Some people expect to be able to have 2 gain settings because of this and switch easily between them with a footswitch. Evidently the amp doesn't work this way though. So apparently there's more functionality hidden in there but not easily accessible.

Re: Fender Super Sonic

I jammed with a guy that had the Supersonic combo. It sounded sweet for almost all applications, but as expected it couldn't stack up to a half stack or even a 2x12. He had it dimed and it barely kept up. Get the head, and run it through a 4x12 and you'll have everything you ever needed.

Re: Fender Super Sonic

Every time this amp comes up i say the same thing...it sounds just like my 68 Bassman but it has a good distortion channel built in. Perfect amp, I'd like a blonde one.

Wow! You guys must really play loud! I'm thinking about getting one, but it might be too loud for me. Although, I did just listen to it with a jumper cable in the effects loop and the level lowered... the volume seemed more manageable this way.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting the head and cabinet myself. I dont know if I'll really need 4x12s at this time. Maybe 2x12 or 4x10... I'll put it this way, I'm looking forward to experimenting!

Well said. I always try to be wary of reviews, but then again there are times when you just know basically what you want.
