Wondering what you guys think i should put in it for some higher output better sound. I'm thinking the jb bridge and a 59 neck. Hit me with some ideas. Thanks

Great pickup choices... but as far as I know SD only offers that size of wide-range pickup through the Custom Shop. A couple of other boutique builders make them as a production model but charge Custom Shop pricing. Its a unique size pickup. If you get them made or rewound, get them voiced exactly as you want. The custom shop will do you right this way.

Best to you!

What kind of music do you play and what tones are you looking for? The Tele Deluxes and 72 Thinlines are great platforms for humbucker swaps (it's pretty easy to fabricate adapters so normal pickups will fit) but there are a thousand choices out there.

I personally haven't seen an easy fabrication. But I would like to if you have one.

In my experience you can replace the pickguard with a custom built that accepts Reg-Size humbuckers though the Deluxe Tele bridges are F-spaced so you need trem-spaced buckers. The guard is about $50 + and/or there are adapter rings...but the route is too shallow on the 72 RIs, so you either have to route the body (not easy for most) or mount directly to the body with wood screws with little adjustment possibilities and leaving the empty holes in pickguard.

Just my .2

Cheers!

Hey Chuck, I noticed you play a thinline version. Did you swap out the pickups?

It's not pretty, but it works great. A piece of flat aluminum drilled and riveted into original holes. I currently have Phat Cats but I've tried JB, Jazz-n, 59n, sm2 minihums, Dimarzio Airzone and AirNorton.

^ I'd go for a new pickguard based on that photo

LOL, I did that years ago (maybe 2001) when there were no easy to find replacement pickguards. I thought of the easiest, fastest to install adaptor I could make with materials in my house. It worked and I never went back to make it pretty.

I lol'd.

One of these things is still on my 'list', though I'd be more motivated to pick one up if the friggin things had 22 frets.

Re: Fender Telecaster 72 deluxe pickup change

i play anything ranging pop punk to metal. I have another guitar for playiing higher gain stuff but i love the playability of this guitar and just want some pickups with a little more bite. So what your saying is that i need a trem-spaced jb in the bridge and can have a normal spaced humbucker in the neck?
