Fender Telecaster

Hello guys..which MIA or MIJ Tele is better for good ol' blues, classic rock and southern rock? Ash or Alder body? I don't have any experience with Telecaster, but I really would like to search for a good one.
Thanks!

Re: Fender Telecaster

I like the MIJ Tele Customs from the 80's and early 90's.

They're alder with a rosewood fingerboard neck and the bodies are double bound with cream binding.

Lipstick tube neck pickup and standard bridge pickup.

For the best tone you'll want to replace the Japanese pickups with Duncan's.

Maybe the Antiquitys for the ultimate in vintage tone or maybe the Tapped Tele Hot set if you'd like a little hotter tone for easier overdrive and then you can switch to the "tapped" mode for vintage tones again.

I'd also replace the bridge someday with a Barden with the three compenstated brass saddles and other features that'll make your Tele sound better and play more comfortably.

Re: Fender Telecaster

If the body isn't Ash then it isn't a Tele to me.

Re: Fender Telecaster

I have a MIJ 52 RI. A very nice guitar and it plays great. I agree with Lew in replacing the electronics. I changed the PUPS, switch and pots. I have a vintage 54 in the neck and a Jery D in the bridge. Its a smokin' Tele. I have a few others as well, but this is a very traditional sounding Tele. Good for Blues and classic rock. I don't think a Tele would be my choice for Southern Rock, thas a Les Paul all the way.

Yeah...but the 60's Fender Tele Customs were alder too. Actually sounds really good if it's a nice light weight piece of alder.

My favorite Tele, my 54, is very light ash though...

But these 80's and 90's MIJ Tele Customs are great guitars and not as expensive as the ash 52 RI's can be.

The MIJ 52 RI Bludave mentioned are very cool guitars too.

Re: Fender Telecaster

Thanks for all the input guys! I'll take a look at some telecasters this weekend! I don't have enough money at the moment.. but i'm starting to save some.
Bludave - I'm sure a Les Paul is the most suitable axe for southern rock, but right now a gibson explorer is my main axe, so i can get some big bad tones, like Blackfoot, Skynyrd and Molly Hatchet.
I really want a Telecaster for cleaner riffs, and because i'm a big Keith Richards fan

Here's a cool one....although I wouldn't buy it cuz I don't like Bigsby vibratos:

That is indeed a very cool one... damn you poorness...

I dont like the tension Bigsby's put on the strings, but I think they look absolutely sexy.
