Re: Fender Tex-Mex set

This is why I no longer purchase without photos. Those are not Tex-Mex pickups.

Tex-Mex pickups come on plastic formed bobbins (same bobbins as Fender USA pickups). Also, Tex-Mex pickups don't have vintage wire like that. They have modern vinyl wire in white red and blue? I think. What ever the color code is, Tex-Mex are coded for Neck, Middle and Bridge.

Since your pickups have vintage wire and vintage bobbins, they might be something more valuable than Tex-Mex. Or, who knows, they might be cheaper Korean pickups. I have no idea other than I bought some unknown pickups here once and did a lot of reseach on many forums to find out the ones I bought were Tex-Mex, so I know positively what those are and what they look like.

I suggest you perform an ohm reading on each pickup and do some reseach to try and figure out what these are.

Re: Fender Tex-Mex set

wackey! I got them from my buddy who took them out of his Fender Road Worn 60's Stratocaster. Fender listed them as Tex-Mex pickups so that's what I called them.

Re: Fender Tex-Mex set

Well, they don't look like Tex Mexes, that's for sure.

Is it possible there was a specs change on the Road Worn Series that you missed? Perhaps the older ones had different pickups.

If not, I'd drop an e-mail to Fender. Get the serial of the guitar from your friend to use when you ask them.

Re: Fender Tex-Mex set

I have Tex Mex pups in one of my own strats...They don't have cloth wiring..

Measure the dc resistances...They read high in the over 7k ranges also..

Yes. Each pickup is color coded (white / yellow / red) because they must go in the specific location of neck, middle, bridge.

I like my set, but I wired a tone to the bridge and installed a Callaham pickup plate to fatten the tone.

I adjusted the pole heights on mine and adjust them down a bit...I Like em! Sorry to hijack the post..

Re: Fender Tex-Mex set

It's all good. I have not heard from Fender, I also posted on their Forum. So far, no response.
Everything I have read about the Road worn series says Tex-Mex....but they sure don't look like Tex-Mex. Hopefully someone over in Fender land can help out!

Re: Fender Tex-Mex set

oh, and hey Stratdeluxe97. where in Florida are you? I just relocated from Maine, know of any cool guitar shops?

Re: Fender Tex-Mex set

So I heard from some Fender people...good news for me!
The pups come from a Road Worn Player series and have been told they are Texas Specials!I think I'll hold on to them for now, thanks for turning me on to this!

Re: Fender Tex-Mex set

I have two of the Tex-Mex single coils from a HSS MIM Fender. I was going to exploit the plastic bobbin construction to reset the magnet stagger for selling to a certain left-handed forum bro.

Nice pickups but not killer!

Once you fix the messed up pole staggers and adjust the pickup heights down a bit, they are great pickups..

I regard the Tex-Mex single coils as a slightly overwound version of the old Fender Am Std offering.
