Fender Tex-Mex

Re: Fender Tex-Mex

I had a set in one of my Strats. They're hotter than a standard p'up. To me they sound a little brighter as well.

Re: Fender Tex-Mex

Have them on my Tele. Over wound and very nice sounding. The neck pup was a big surprise. Very smooth and full sounding with clarity.

Re: Fender Tex-Mex

Yes, my JV came with them. Good pups. The bridge is a little hotter than normal and I like that. Absolutely workable. I replaced them with a wired up pick guard that had a Fender CS 69 in the neck and an SSL-1 at the bridge which I since replaced with an SSL-5 but that wasn't because of any problems with the Tex Mex set. I just love the CS 69 in the neck position and I have fallen in love with the SSL-5 at the bridge.

Re: Fender Tex-Mex

Back in the mid 90's, I went looking for a new Strat. I don't like Strats because of the contours and the position of the volume control; but I was looking none the less. I found a 60's Strat and a Tex Mex Strat. I tried both. The 60's Strat's tone was more "vintagy"; brighter and thinner than the Tex Mex Strat. The Tex Mex Strat's tone was still very Stratty but fuller and meatier due to the Tex Mex pickups.

I also bought a Deluxe Nashville Tele because of the 3-pickup config and the Tex Mex pickups. They are just a bit fatter, louder, and meatier than the standard classic Tele pickups. They're not like Texas Specials though; IMO, they're smoother than the TS'. I bought a Nashville Tele set from a forum member because I really like the way the sound and react together. I have them in a partscaster and they're perfect for that guitar.

Re: Fender Tex-Mex

The Tex-Mex is a guilty pleasure OEM pickup of mine. I far prefer it to the Texas Special or most other stock Fender pickups. Hotter than stock, but not really P90-ish. Little boosted high-mids. Good for crunch. Nick
