Fender Tonemaster stuff

This thing's alright.

Quite like it, actually. Too bad it's not mine. The Jag sounds amazing through it...

Never seen another one, but apparently they were made in the late 90s... Every reference to them I've seen calls them "custom shop". Somehow I don't think that's quite right, but damn if it ain't a decent amp. Might have to buy one of my own :D

What's up with that... here's a pic anyway. Highly recommended :D

Re: Fender Tonemaster stuff

any more GUITARS ;)

Amps well... Even 100 watts solid state isn't so loud as that sounds :laugh2: 100 watts tube can eff up the neighbor's cat if I'm not careful (my neighbors live 1/4 mile away)

I know, I have a 100 watt tube amp ;)

My cat almost died once from her eardrums being blown into her brain :laugh2: :smack:

J/k

whatever floats your boat man......whatever turnns your crank

It goes on......

Re: Fender Tonemaster stuff

hehe... I don't discriminate if I find something I like, but I still like the ungodly clean tone of SS amps... :D

This thing will have to do then ;)

Actually, I'm starting to like the distortion on my Fender SS amp a little bit too. I hate SS clean sound though :smack:

Of course I haven't played my Nomad for almost a month. It's in the shop.

Re: Fender Tonemaster stuff

...really? hmm. Explains why I haven't seen many... kind of.

I would think a custom shop offering would be... fancier. But then I always expect a lot of knobs ;)

It gives a really nice fender clean tone, and a fairly brutal distortion channel...

Re: Fender Tonemaster stuff

The guitar player for No Doubt and Ritchie Sambora were the 2 biggest endorsees for the Tonemaster.

I always thought it would have been better as a 50W. Reverb would have been nice. The gain channel could have been a little smoother and warmer too. The clean channel is headroom city. Beautiful cleans.

Re: Fender Tonemaster stuff

yep. Even my bandmate's ibanez... thing managed to stay clean in the clean channel most of the way through...

And I don't like smooth distortion so :laugh2:

crunch city.

Re: Fender Tonemaster stuff

It's a great amp. I can see it being a good bass amp too, because of all that clean headroom. I think it also has 2 FX loops too, so each channel can have independent FX. The Fat switch is a nice feature too.

Re: Fender Tonemaster stuff

What, don't you like the Tonemaster? Or did you already buy and sell one?

Re: Fender Tonemaster stuff

Fender used to have (maybe still do, but you never see any press about it) an Amp Custom Shop. They did point-to-point hand-wired amps that cost a pretty penny. The Tonemaster was the flagship of that line. As Gear said, they got a couple of high profile endorsees for it, but sales never really took off so Fender gave it the boot.

I tried a Tonemaster and a Prosonic back in the day (Fender's high gain heads), and wasn't too happy with the gain channel on either one. The new Supersonic, however, is a huge improvement.
