Fender Twin Amp

I was wondering how good the 100 watt Fender Twin Amps are. I'm in a position where I can get a brand new one for $600, and I'm trying to figure out how amazing these amps are.

Re: Fender Twin Amp

Really comes down to what you want it for. That's a hell of a lot of amp! I'm in the U.K. so I don't really know about U.S. prices but that sounds amazing! $600? that would get you a brand new Marshall MG250 combo over here and no more. You Yanks have it so sweet over the pond! HA HA!

Re: Fender Twin Amp

Loud and clean, get a distortion pedal and you're set for life...every club to every stadium, hahaha

Re: Fender Twin Amp

The Fender tube amps are no-doubt good sounding I should say. I played my LP through a Boss Acoustic simulator pedal and ran it on a Fender vibroverb similar or perhaps its the twin amp and it sounds DAMN good.
You know the difference when playing an electric guitar through an acoustic simulator and playing an acoustic guitar. But thought the vibroverb or twin amp, The clean really unexpected, sounded exactly playing an acoustic.
If you asked me, i'm still a Marshall bias chap. I use LP guitars and i might as well get a Fender to use their amps. Sounds weird eh ? but thats me

they arent my favorite but i know people who love them. new tubes and speakers go along way to really making them sound great

Re: Fender Twin Amp

Please can someone else say something about the $600 plrice for a new fender twin! Am I going mental or something? Please don't tell me that that's not unusual for a twin in America. If it is then I'm moving, end of! You got room for a little one over there?

Re: Fender Twin Amp

Very unusual.

The Twin is crazy loud and clean. If you have some pedal you really like it's a great amp. (fuzz, OD, dist)

Re: Fender Twin Amp

The 100W twin goes for about $1000 from Musician's Fiend. That's a killer deal. I had one from the 80's. I wish I'd never sold it. Luke Duke's dad has an old Twin Reverb. Killer amp. The best cleans you'll ever get. TONS of headroom. A good distortion or overdrive pedal will go a long way.

Re: Fender Twin Amp

Twins are great Amps...... But in most cases there are way to loud. $600. is a real good price for one. I prefer the 80 Watt Twins. This is a good Amp Buy it!

Re: Fender Twin Amp

I actually got one years ago at Guitar Center for $600, brand new. The reason was that their affiliation with Musician's Friend caused them to over-buy Twins. They started blowing them out at dealer cost.

To be honest, I didn't care much for the amp. Too clean, and the EQ just didn't sit in a mix right. Almost every other amp I plugged into beat it, tonally. If ONLY they put a bias pot in them, because I think part of the problem was that the tubes were running too cold.

Yep. Way to loud. If you like to play with a distorted rock tone you may not like it. You'll have to turn it up SO LOUD to get any natural overdrive that it may be to much amp for you. They're to much amp for me...just to clean and to loud...and to heavy too. Great for country clean or pedal steel players though.

Re: Fender Twin Amp

Is it the two channel amp with the 1/4 power switch? A guitarist in a band I was in used to use one of those. The distortion was ok, but not great. The clean channel was really nice though. I think he paid $950 or so. So, $600 is a really good deal.

Yeah, that's the one. It goes from 100 watts to 25.

Re: Fender Twin Amp

Although they do sound great and you'd be getting it at a steal for $600, 80 watts is quite loud so finding natural overdrive isn't as easy as plugging into a Deluxe Reverb. For most cases, I think that a DR is better for dialing in some great natural OD. And for clean tone, just roll off the guitar's volume knob.

Either way, just about any Fender tube amp takes OD boxes beautifully.

Re: Fender Twin Amp

i think the one that allows you to lower the voltage like a variac is a pretty good amp, like everyone says CLEAN as the day is long but still for that price you should be able to re-sell if needed...

PLAY IT!! :)

Dude, if you have pedals to flavor it, then hell, go for it. Fender amps to me are the finest quality meat with no seasoning, and a tube screamer flavors it well. But anyway, they're amazing amps, you should really look into it unless you're a heavy rock/metal guy. They'll do damn near anything else. Ask TGWIF about his.

that's a pretty nice amp, IMO. I would definately jump on it. Great cleans, and some decent distortion. It's not Marshall flavored distortion so don't think you're going to hear that, but it can get pretty distorted. And like was mentioned before, go with a nice tube screamer, sparkle drive or other overdrive pedal in front of it.

Re: Fender Twin Amp

I'm not a fan. I found the cleans to be a lacking in warmth. Bear in mind I'm not a huge fan of the 65 twin reissue either, and others swear by them, so this is a personal taste thing.

Of that range, the Concert reverb is the one to get. the 4x10 format sweetens up the midrange. Have fun lugging it around...
