I can honestly say that I don't care much for the 65 RI twin reverb at all. I owned a 65RI custom 15 twin rev.. It was, the worst amp I have owned in 10 years, and I've owned a bunch. It sounded, thin and had no life whatsoever. I am a Fender guy too!. I Like the tweed tone, and the old blackface tone. The early silverface Fenders are great too(1968-1974).I think the difference is the lack of a Rectifier tube and the crappy circuit board. Fender used to make the best amps on the planet,the bean counters have destroyed the mojo!!

hey if i could i would take a silver face twin reverb..but my dad doesnt want one...and hes owned a twin reverb back in the 60's..i think he wants brand new...but i dk maybe hell change his mind or something...or i might have to go half on half with him...though at the local guitar center they got a silver face twin reverb for 1000, a silverface vibrolux for 1500 ( i think it says vibrolux custom on it ...i could be wrong) and a old silver face princeton for like 500 or 600...

Try this,when you get your dad to the music store, play the new twin & the silverface side by side.(if thats possible). If you don't need a LOT of volume, give the S.F. princeton a go. That amp will blow the new twin reverb away!(tone wise).What ever you and your dad decide on, I wish you luck!

also the issue of the silverface....i mean how do you know the conidition it really is in? how do you know its original? people could of changed the cabinet or the circuit board etc.?

Well, you can buy a shiny NEW '65 RI PCB hunkojunk and junk it in 5-10 years (bet on it)

or

you can buy a tagboard SF '68 to '74 model, do a little work on it maybe, play it for the next couple decades, and then sell it for more money.

Well, firstly, there isn't a circuit board per se in a silverface twin.

Now to answer your question with what I'm sure you'll realise is a glaringly obvious answer: get it checked over by a tech. An hour's work, if that.
