Fender Twin RI - reverb stopped working

Hey guys, I just got a brand new Fender Twin Reverb reissue in September and the reverb has stopped working. I checked all the tubes (one was not lighting up, but I changed it and it is still not working) and the RCA jacks are plugged in to the chassis. Is there any other things I should check for before taking it in? The place I bought it from is a half hour away and there authorized repair guy is at another store 45 miles from there. I got a gig this weekend and some big rehersals early next week and I really don't want to be with out an amp for 2 weeks. The tremolo works just fine, only the reverb is acting up.

Thanks for your help
RYAN

If no tube lights up in that socket? It could be a bad heater wire connection. If your handy with a solder iron? Re flowing all the solder joints might fix it? BUT!! If you unsure of what your doing? DON'T EVEN TRY IT !!You will void your warranty.:smack: Best Bet... I see in your sig you have 2 delay pedals. If you need reverb? Set one up to sound like verb. I know it's not the same, But it will get you though your gigs until you have the time to have the amp repaired by a Pro.

Re: Fender Twin RI - reverb stopped working

This is a PCB amp---there are no heater 'wires'. Reflowing the joints is asking for real problems when the traces get broken or lifted---and you will have no warranty. Take it to a tech---or use a reverb pedal in the meantime till you can leave it for a couple weeks. Might be the tube, the socket, or internal components...

Re: Fender Twin RI - reverb stopped working

A lot of times reverb issues seem to trace back to a wire break in the pan itself. Take the verb pan out of the bag and look carefully for the itsy bitsy little wires that solder in there. I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me and others that I have read about with verb problems.

I am not smart enough to comment on the tube not heating up, but the 1st thing I would have said is to check the verb driver tube. Since you have replaced it I would definitely check the tank.

Ya, the two delay pedals are used for different things. The DD3 is a standard delay, the DD5 is a rythmic delay for doing tap tempo stuff. Basicly it does the U2 thing. Lately I have been micing it and putting some of the room plates on it throu the PA system. I probably do need to have it taken in, I was just curious if there was a real easy fix I may have over looked.

If you just got the brand new amp then it should be under warranty. The Peavey Delta Blues our church has is under warranty still....

Not to sound snobby, but I think it is definitely worth it to take a look at what I said. It's easy, quick and gives you verb for your gig. If that's not the issue then you really haven't wasted much time in the grand scheme.

Re: Fender Twin RI - reverb stopped working

Okay, let me update this for you guys. I have swapped out all the preamp tubes and still no reverb. The connections are all plugged in. When you turn the reverb volume up the hiss gets louder. when you rock the amp back and forth the reverb does krackle. SO this makes me think that it is some problem with the send or return input.... Anyone else got a suggestion??

Cables? Just for chuckles, swap out the cheapo stock cables for a pair of RCA's (like you would use for your stereo) and see if it works.

I'm still confused, dude: is this thing under warranty? If it is, why are you working on it?

The place I bought it from is like a 35 mile drive. Just didn't want to waste a whole day, plus there amp guy is at another store. I just wanted it fixed quickly and it sounded like an easy fix too

Re: Fender Twin RI - reverb stopped working

All of those molded RCA cables have a tendency to break at the bend---right where they go into the reverb jacks. So---be careful not to let them bump up against the wall, the seat of a car, etc. The old cables Fender used were good for 40 years (so far), the new braided ones are lighter gauge and short pretty easily. If you shop around, you can find some decent right angle RCA cables...glad it worked.
