Fender VI pickups/wiring

Hi Guys!

So, i'm building a Warmoth Fender VI.

Since the pick-guard is cut for a strat, i thought i'd use SSL-1's as they are very similar specs to the jaguar pickups.

the Custom Shop wiring digram shows 1 meg audio pots for tone and volume..i gather this still should be ok with Strat pickups since it's a baritone?

I'll have to wire that strange switch to another switch as warmoth only offer routing for 3 switches not 4....

Any other advice/help on this would be awesome.

Thanks Team!!!!

Re: Fender VI pickups/wiring

Jaguar pickups always were, essentially, Stratocaster-sized pickups under non-Stratocaster-sized covers with those metal screening "claws" added. The big differences were the magnet length stagger pattern and the fact that the conductor cables were at the end of the vulcanised fibreboard rather than halfway along on edge.

In my experience, on a Jaguar, any pot value other than 1Meg spoils its unique tone.

On the Fender VI, the four switches were on/off for each pickup plus a Bass Cut switch. Since there is not a vast amount of low end on the instrument to begin with, the fourth switch might be better employed to give series/parallel switchiong between two of the pickups.

On your project instrument, a five-way lever selector switch plus a mode switch might prove more practical. It depends which pickup combinations you require.

Ok sweet, 2 vintage bridge and 1 vintage neck SD on order it is!

I may drop in a 3 or 5 way switch as well as the normal 3 on/off.
