Fender Vibro-King tone question

Diminished Triad

For anyone that has had/has or has worked with a Vibro-King could you share how you reduce the extremely bright tone and maybe add more warmth and/or reverb?
The reverb feature was not included until recently (I think from the 2013 model on....) and so it takes some real tweaking to simulate a decent reverb effect.
More than anything, the very bright tone for a tube amp is surprising - but I'm sure it has lots to do with the tone settings so hoping someone with experience can provide a few recommendations!

Thank you!

Re: Fender Vibro-King tone question

there are lots of bright sounding tube amps.

turn down the treble, turn up the mid and bass, turn on the fat switch.

reverb has been part of these amps since the beginning. they changed the reverb driver from an el84 to a 6v6 at some point but thats it

i dont think you can simulate a reverb effect with a non reverb amp without using some outboard gear

you should send the amp to me. its a pos. ill pay shipping.

Here's a pic from Musicians Friend: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/ampl...ro-king-custom-60w-3x10-tube-guitar-combo-amp
That's the model I have.....I did read/hear they added a reverb effect recently because of the great demand....
What did you mean "it's a pos?"
Thanks so much!

Re: Fender Vibro-King tone question

that is the vibro king. its looked like that since 1993. always had reverb.

Re: Fender Vibro-King tone question

Maybe just needs a rebias/retube and a tech to check out the amp.

Edit - the switch of the reverb tube was in the '90s. Not sure exactly when. Anyway my Bassman RI was really bright when I got it - Biasing really improved it - its dramatic if it was originally biased cold. Then I could not leave well enough alone and gutted the circuit board for a PTP board and finally followed through this year with the cap board when I serviced the amp.

In 2013 Fender announced the addition of reverb based on popular demand.....although my model is pre-2013.
I sent the pic from musicians friend..........can't find reverb on the amp or in the pic - let me know if I'm missing something?!
Thanks Jeremy!!!

Re: Fender Vibro-King tone question

those first 3 knobs on that amp in the pic are reverb aren't they?

yes. this amp is different from most fender reverb amps. this is similar to a fender stand alone reverb tank into a fender non reverb amp. there is no knob marked reverb, instead there are dwell, mix, and tone knobs

right!

which is WAY more verb than a typical Fender amp...

Re: Fender Vibro-King tone question

I have a circa mid-2000s (as in 2004-2006, can't remember which) Vibro-King...it has reverb. They all have reverb.

Re: Fender Vibro-King tone question

I just wonder why and what is missing from the circuit board??? (Yes, I can read the items)

Re: Fender Vibro-King tone question

Reverb is like salt. A small amount is great, a lot will ruin your meal.

I did not like reverb when I started back in the dark ages.

Re: Fender Vibro-King tone question

AFAIR, the Vibro-King amounts to a Fender "standalone" valve reverb unit in front of a Bassman amplifier (plus a wobble effect).

The reason why I think of the V-K this way is because a blues guy in my area used to run a rig consisting of separate re-issues of the Fender reverb and Bassman 3x10. He was always bemoaning that fact that he had not waited for the V-K to be launched.

Re: Fender Vibro-King tone question

Never thought about it that way. VK is 3X10 and point to point wired... Bassman RI is 4X10 and PCB.

Bassman RI + Reverb tank = Poor mans Vibro King.

Makes sense.
