That amp was one of Bruce Zinkys babies when he was running the Fender CS.
The overly bright tone you speak of is a ?? for me as every one of those I have played through were big round and full sounding. If you have one that is overly bright something is amiss with your amp!

Definitely overly bright......although good chance problem is on our side of the amp.

I am not familiar with this particular model Fender but in most cases if you don't have the foot pedal connected to the amp it will shut off the function. Make sure your pedal is connected and then you should be able to dial in the Reverb that you want/need.
