Are the wide spaced humbuckers that fender are now offering in guitars such as the tele deluxe the same size as a regular humbucker. (Would a humbucker fit in as a replacement) and also are they wired any differently to normal humbuckers?

Re: Fender wide spaced humbucker size

If you're talking the wide range offset screw humbucker type......then no they are not Gibson humbucker sized - a new pickguard is the best way to go.

Re: Fender wide spaced humbucker size

The covers and baseplates are not the standard humbucker size.

However if you open one of the reissues up what you will find is a standard humbucker coil and a whole bunch of empty space in the cover filled with wax.

Yeah, not the same size at all. I would think you couldn't put standard humbuckers on those baseplates and put them under that cover, either, as you'd need a 3+3 coil arrangement. I think the Custom Shop can build any of the SD Humbuckers in a Wide Range form factor. Or, buy another pickguard.
