Fender Zone Bass

Does anyone know what the term "Zone" refers to in the Fender "Zone" Bass? Whats the Zone?

And while we're at it, what kind of quality difference do you think there'ld be between the American Deluxe, and the Deluxe? I'm assuming the Deluxe is simply a MIM one.

Thanks all.

Re: Fender Zone Bass

I think "zone" is just Fender's cute way of saying they tried to style it with modern contemporary aesthetics.

I've played a few, and you're right, the deluxe is the MIM one and American Deluxe is, well, American. duh.

the difference isn't too great. They both play good, but my experience has the American as having a better feel to it. I liked the stock pickups on it too, they're kind of like doubled up jazz bass pickups. the standard deluxe is just a normal P/J configuration, so it'd be easier to replace pickups. Both have active electronics, and both are nice basses. which one you want ultimately comes down to what you like, this is just what I have to say about 'em. cheers.

Thanks guys. I thought it might be something more . . . profound. :laugh2:

Looked nothing like a sword, marketing is my guess.

Marketing is a strange animal. I remember a decade or so ago, when folks thought that Nissan "Hardbody" pickups had some fusion of the cab and bed for increased rigidy. It was just an ad campaign that meant they looked good. Ie., "hardbodies" on the beach.
