fender's many shades of white

hey, guys. i've been a-lurkin' for about a month.

i'm graduating college this semester*, and i've decided that my graduation gift is going to be an h-s-s style fender strat.

my favorite look for a fender is maple neck and fretboard, "pure" white body, pearloid pickguard, and gold hardware. looks like a million bucks.

anyway, fender has several shades of "white," and i want to go with the one that would look the most pristine while also going well with a pearloid pickguard.

the candidates, as far as i can tell, are olympic white, arctic white, and (the new?) olympic pearl. i'd always thought that olympic white was a little off-white, but maybe i am misinformed?

i've been to the local guitar store, and they didn't have any of these colors.

anyone with fender experience, help, please.

Re: fender's many shades of white

my arctic is a touch yellow when I look at it. isnt olympic the mroe white one? or is that more grey?

arctic white is in my avatar beside my name in this post by the way, i'd say olympic is definately more white.

Arctic FTW.

Mary Kay looks awesome with pearloid IMO.

i love white strats in general.... Olympic White is my fav.... but right now all i have is a 1999 MIM Artic White one that has aged to a cream.... i keep it on a rack in my room and the sunlight has aged it naturally

i like solid colors.

the pics that dazh posted are essentially the source of my confusion. depending on which images i see on the internet, both olympic and arctic are the colors that i like or don't like! :/

i've seen guitars that are said to be the same finnish slightly different even when new... finnish is not always 100% the same tints from batch to batch... and the amount of finnish used effects it as well...

on Warmoth's site i have been keeping an eye out for a cheaper Light Yellow Strat body as that is a colour i also like!!! some of them look really yellow and some of them look lighter... also the photo and lighting could be playing a huge roll..

Re: fender's many shades of white

A few weeks ago, Fender offered their 57 trans-white/maple/gold for a bargain of $1000.

I wonder if you could have GC look up all their stores' inventories and see if there's still an unsold one.

The guitar I'm talking about is the best Fender you could possibly get for your graduation gift.

the local music store does have a mary kaye reissue strat. don't recall the price. (the budget is ~$1000.)

i just noticed that i left a dangling asterisk in my first post. i was going to make some sort of comment that my graduation is really only "temporary" in that i'm going right back to school in the fall. lol.

Making up occasions to get guitars? You'll fit in just fine around here.

As for which white, you'll be fine with either one of the two. They're both close enough to white, and only off-white by enough to make them go better with pearloid and gold. Either one beside anything but a sheet of paper would look pure white. Given the above pictures, I'd say olympic. As long as its not vintage white you'll be fine.
