Depends,I suppose.
On LP-type,I usually disconnect teh Tone pots but leave 'em in.
Sometimes the same w/Strats...

Not much help,I guess :/

I like the 1/2 rivot-thingies,too,although if you use metal ones be sure to have a (nylon)washer to avoid finish dents...
