Finalized the gig board for 2017

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
After 3 months' rehearsal with this band, I have finalized my gig board. It went through several iterations but in the end, as nice as the other board sounded, it was just too much gain and was causing feedback issues ... if I have a large wattage amplifier with a tonne of clean headroom it would be able to take it, but as it stands, even at rehearsal using a Bruno Pony 50, it was pushing too much gain into the amplifier.

Sooo ... I had to have a rethink about the whole thing. In the end, I went back to using the MXR distortion +. It just sounds amazing when you are using it with a cranked amp. The BB Preamp is providing a bit of EQ shaping and is actually set very clean ... barely on the edge of breakup. But when you use it to push the front of the distortion + ... man, it comes alive quite gloriously!

The Philopsoher's Tone grabs the audio and evens out the level differences between clean and crunchy. The last pedal is the 1776 Multiplex. All 3 modes sound excellent, but for this project I am really liking the Binson setting; normally I don't dig it that much but it really sounds fab with the Strat and other pedals!

First gig is April 8; will see how it really fares then.

K.I.S.S.

That is the way I like my pedal setup too.

Do you find the new D+ harsh at all, Ben? I have not played a new one in several years, but I do not recall it sounding nearly as nice as my old one from the 70s (that I stupidly sold in the 90s).

Not harsh at all! The opposite in fact. The BB is adding top end, otherwise it would be very dark and mid heavy.

Is Deco for recording only?
Not intentionally, no; but in this application there was just too much gain. Great for lead work but nothing else.

If I was using my big board, I would use my loop switcher and use the Uberschall /DECO for leads and the BB/distortion + for rhythm.

That's what you call full circle. The chase ends at inexpensive basics.

It's not the first time I've seen someone with exotic rigs end up going back to a few Boss or MXR pedals.
