Finally a D'Avanzo guitars build for myself...

I don't get to build myself nearly as many guitars as I'd like to but this one I do get to keep for once. It's my tribute or inspired by build to pay homage to my favorite guitarist, Jake E Lee. I didn't want to fully copy one of Jake's guitars so I combined aspects of a few and threw in my own style and made it a bit more my own. It has a shop floor custom double screw coil Duncan JB in the bridge and two DiMarzio SDS-1s with the middle RWRP. A whole bunch of brass hardware, some Hipshot locking tuners and I also made a real carbon fiber control cavity cover for it, just because. The pics don't do the color (Audi velvet purple) any justice, I'll have to wait for a sunny day to take some outdoor shots to really show how cool it looks in person.

Uses my contoured body heel and matching neck heel. I took away everything that gets in your hands way while keeping as much wood as possible since too sculpted a heel can IMO hurt tone.

Holy craaaaaaaap that is hot!

the whole blue/purple spectrum, when put together with gold is just off the charts sexy, every single time, especially when it's darker shades of blue/purple.

Looks great man. What kind of bridge is that?

That's just Straight Up Beautiful!!! Love the color w/the brass h-ware. Nice choice of "one of your own".

Been watching your Instagram photos. Man, this turned out amazing. I love it. Have you seen RDC yet? If not, DO IT!

Thanks! I'm a big fan of deep purple paint and brass hardware, combo always works well. The bridge is made by a machine shop (Merlin 5) that does a ton of work for several guitar companies. Not sure if they sell direct to the public though, they do pop up on ebay now and again however.

Thanks!! Had to pay tribute to Jake without making an exact replica.

Thanks for following along, more stuff on deck that will pop up on instagram. I haven't seen them yet (actually skipped the local show since I didn't want to schlep into NYC and they didn't play the Island) but I've been watching tons of live vids on youtube and am loving it. Glad to have Jake and Joe Holmes (his new band Farmikos is the best new band since the 90s IMO) back and playing, two of my favorite guitarists that were MIA for far too long.

Almost the same color as my old Charvel M4. Best shade of blue there is. Gorgeous!

Love the colour! Although I only see purple, not blue as everyone else seems to.

Thanks. Might be your computer monitors calibration showing it a bit more blue, hard to capture the color in pics then when the pics are looked at on different devices it looks a bit different too. It much more in the purple family than blue. Thus why it's never good to pic a color based on an internet pic because it won't look the same from screen to screen, just the nature of color calibration variation between screens. It's not a color Charvel ever used, the color didn't exist 'til a few years ago actually. It's an "Audi exclusive" color (their name for these special colors) that you can get any new Audi painted in for some obscene upcharge in price. I loved the color so I paid extra for the pricey paint and am glad I did.

Thanks, yeah it's all purple. In the sun it looks like this...

Sweet axe! We need a drooling emoticon now.

Hahaha, now that's a good compliment, thanks.

It's all good, I like the clean naked fretboard look haha. It does have matching brass side dots however to go with all the brass hardware...

Re: Finally a D'Avanzo guitars build for myself...

That looks phenomenal, kinda surprised that you chose to build this a hard-tail, guess as part of the tribute.

So, how're you liking it so far?

BTW, LOVE that color, kinda Midnight Blue, except more Midnight and less Blue than the usual Fender one huh?

Re: Finally a D'Avanzo guitars build for myself...

Nice looking guitar ! I was planning on painting my Strat a Mercedes Benz metal-flake deep purple , but the guy backed out at the last minute. We like it a lot enjoy.

Re: Finally a D'Avanzo guitars build for myself...

I like the angles on the mid and neck pickup. That to me makes more sense then the more common reverse,

Really like it, flat out love the reverse angled SDS-1 in the neck. If there was a stacked version that didn't have typical 60 cycle hum I'd like it even more but even with the hum it sounds REALLY good and is climbing the lsit of my favorite neck pickups. The color is really all purple, not blue. I need to take shots in the sun if it ever stops raining here to better show it.

Thanks. There's bound to be other painters out there that can paint your strat.

The reverse angled pickups are awesome. No idea why I haven't done this before since it solves my complaints with neck and mid pickups being a bit too flabby in some cases. This keeps the bottom end much tighter which I like as I'm a person that's just fine with a single bridge hum and nothing more.

Looks great Mike! (and that bridge looks familiar. ;))

Thanks, not quite the same bridge, those DiMarzio ones like Clone 003 has a tricky to find. This was more fitting to a Jake tribute style guitar since it's a bit closer to the ones used on his blue and purple burst Charvels. It's not the same but close enough since I wasn't actually building a replica anyway, just an "inspired by".

Re: Finally a D'Avanzo guitars build for myself...

It's **** like this that is going to shift my whole gear purchasing timeline.

Seriously, Mike, you WILL make a guitar for me one day. Gorgeous, just ****ing gorgeous.
