Finally a D'Avanzo guitars build for myself...

Re: Finally a D'Avanzo guitars build for myself...

Looks great. I like the mix of brass and black hardware, especially on purple, where all gold looks too flashy.

So, the double screw coil JB is now your favorite pickup, or just one you felt fit this guitar best?

Thanks. I wanted to pay homage to all 3 of Jake's famous Charvels, the white Fender/Charvel and the blue burst and purple burst but clean them up and modernize them and give them my own stamp. So I used the bras like the blue and purple bursts have but went with the black tuners and pearl buttons like the white Fender/Charvel. I figured that with the black headstock, pitch black ebony board and black nut would just look much cleaner. Plus gold tuners don't match brass hardware and it would drive me nuts having the richer more orange-ish brass at one and and the brighter more yellow-ish gold at the other, so black was the way to go IMO.

As for the double screw JB, that's another thing paying homage to Jake, so it had to be in the guitar along with the SDS-1s. His white Fender/Charvel has the Duncan AH proto which is essentially just a double screw coil JB so to save money and not go full on custom shop I went with a shop floor custom double screw, no logo JB and it worked out great. It's the reverse angled neck SDS-1 that's becoming one of my all time favorite neck pickups. I've always liked the JB, just haven't had one in ages so it's nice to have one again. It's real fun for me to play this guitar now being a big fan of Jake's combined with the fact that he's now using the same amp (5150III) and cab (EVH 4x12) live that I use so getting close to his current live tone is no problem.

Thanks. Not sure if I'll make the carbon fiber cavity covers an option for customers since I hand cut them and it's pricey material and tedious to shape them so I don't think people wouldn't want to pay a bunch extra for a cavity cover that just looks cooler haha. Me, I would, but I'm silly like that and have had carbon fiber parts on several of my past cars haha.

Kermi from the aggh forum made an entire guitar with it. I can only imagine what a pain it would have been.

Re: Finally a D'Avanzo guitars build for myself...

Yeah that's quite a bit more complicated than just a cavity cover haha. Carbon Fiber isn't hard to work with really, it's just like cutting real messy (lots of black dust) plastic. It's just tedious working from a large sheet and cutting it down to fit the cavity is all. Much easier to have them CNC cut like regular plastic covers but I'd have to do them in bulk and didn't want to spend the money on the material and cutting in the hopes that someone else was crazy enough to want a high dollar cavity cover haha. So I just hand made myself two and that was it.

Just WOW, Mike!!!!!!! You are building beautiful stuff. Love the brass side markers, just a classy instrument.

Re: Finally a D'Avanzo guitars build for myself...

Haha I'll never get used to your backwards date thing :D
Lol sorry it is indeed very new...I thought it was August 12 and not 8 of December......doh!!!
:knockedou

LOL now that's funny. I was setting up a new clock and date widget on my phone yesterday and it started off backwards (day, month, year) and then lets you correct that mistake and put month before day in the settings lol. I said the same thing to myself about it being backwards.

I work for a German company that uses the European format for time, dates, and calendars. I'm used to the most if it, but now every calendar starts on Monday for me, and I'm constantly thinking I'm a day behind.
