Finally a Les Paul I like!

rented and may buy this Les Paul Studio 70s tribute with the awesome flat gold top and mini humbuckers with no screws on the pickup cover.

Looks wise it is very classic Townshend or Troy Van Leeuwen looking and sound wise it has a very chimey clear sound but still has some beef with distortion and fuzz but articulate unlike other Les Pauls I have tried which Is why this is a winner for me. My main guitar is a Godin LG P90 in natural with SD p90s and I have tuned my rig to that sound and the les paul studio tribute fits in perfectly and I can actually reach up the neck good aswell.... 800 used is a bit much IMO but I really dig this axe!

Anyone else have experience with these ?

No, but I have experience with a '78 Deluxe and concur with your thoughts regarding the minis.

Those things originally sold for about $1200 I think, then they got blown out for about $900 or so. I bet you have room to move on that price.

What a beauty !! Yeah I might hassle on the price a bit since it's used and like you said were selling for 900.

Misterwhizzy... I never quite got the les paul thing , I know crazy right ? I always felt they were good but never sounded right for me but I think these mini buckers are just the ticket !

My first axe was an epiphone Les Paul that was eventually ditched for a fender strat. I kept the Strat for 3 years with multiple pickup swaps and even a Duncan custom custom in the bridge. I got sick of the Fender quickly and ditched it for a Gibson Les Paul studio that was amazing! I've been a Les Paul man ever since but ventured on to Warmoth LP's since then. Now that Warmoth has discontinued their LP line I will be looking into buying Gibsons again and let me say this one is at the top of my list! She is a beauty and don't be surprised if she creeps her way into your heart in a way Les Pauls tend to do to most players. It's been said Stratocasters are player's guitars but I beg to differ, it's the black art of playing a Les Paul to perfection... vibrato through the fingers... working the middle position tone and volume knobs and listening to the sweet soul of the instrument that makes the LP a true player's guitar! Congrats for hopefully many years to come!

thanks Snake Aces... I'm usually just trying random guitars at the shop and leaving but something about this LP jumped out at me when I played it acoustically and I LOVE the looks.

This is the key to me for a great sounding LP. There are tons of dead ones out there (as there are for a variety of other makes out there, it's not just LPs), and it pays to play as many acoustically as you can. Pickups, caps, and pots can be swapped if the EQ needs tweaked, but it's gotta have a nice resonant body or forget it.

Mine rings like a bell and vibrates from the tip of the headstock to the butt and all of that translates through the pickups. Super important detail that gets overlooked way too often IMO.

Oh in Canada you can because we are nice folk like that haha


I rent stuff all the time now, I never buy anything unless I rent it for a month and really get to use it even pedals....yes, I rent pedals

I started off with a Squier Strat, and finally upgraded to a Gibson Les Paul. I thought I was an SG guy, but I was wrong. Nothing in my opinion works and sounds and feels like the heft of a big LP. It just rocks.

That is a beauty! Good to see a LP Deluxe that hasn't been in contact with a router. LOL! Most of the ones I've seen over the yrs have been routed for full sized HB's.

Music stores used to rent here way back. Of course, most rented PA's, brass & wood wind instruments for schools too.

Same here. I have a '70s Tribute in the transparent wine red and love it. I think it sounds different than other Les Pauls due primarily to the maple neck and baked maple fretboard, and of course the mini buckers. This Les Paul fixed all my complaints with Les Pauls being thick and muddy, not to mention the awesome neck shape. To me, this neck surpasses the '50s and '60s neck shape. It's perfect for a Les Paul.

My fist Paul I gigged with had the minis, I would like to get another LP with the mini hums one day. But for now my Traditional is all I need.
