I really need to stay off of Facebook Marketplace!

(I'm my defense, I sold a guitar while I was driving down there lol to my other guitarist's son. )

Saw this axe, contacted the guy... He wouldn't meet me half way so I baulked on it for a day.

He messaged me today saying he'd be home.... Arrrrgh ok I drove 2 hours south and picked it up.
It was way more chewed up than the pictures looked. The neck was straight, the frets good, most of the damage was on the sides and rear, no major cracks or anything..... I didn't even low-ball him, he looked rough and needed the money even more than this old scallywag!

Brought it home, gave it a bath. It's just to that starting to rust in a few spots age... The action was like 3/4 of an inch!
I took Lem-oil to the board, scrubbed it all over, cut the rusty strings off, cleaned and wiped it over and over. Screwed in some straploks, adjusted the neck... Dropped the bridge. New strings and tuned it up. Actually sounds huge! I've always wanted one of these, either in a bich, or in blue..... They are getting pretty scarce.... This black one is still pretty wicked I think.

I give you The "ROAD HAG"

To be honest BC Rich makes the only stock pickups I like! Ever! I may not even change these out!

First sound byte:

I've had a couple Bichs, and a couple warlocks, and a few jr Vs.... they were all great players, should never have sold them off

You, sir, have a very fine taste in guitars!

What's the neck on those like? Is it thin? Thick? Gibson-like?

Also, I thought you liked the Gibson 500T? So BC Rich isn't the only one who makes stock pickusp you like. :p

You are correct! The 500t is a great pickup.

I'd say the neck is a comfortable c on this one. Similar to my Explorer. It's not thin like a Jackson or anything, but also not beefy. Just kinda normal ish. Feels a tad narrow compared to an LP.

So the backside of this guitar is pretty banged up.
Also a big dinger in the side of the fretboard.

Issues. Neck was too flat, I relieved it a touch.
3rd and 4th strings buzzed open, so I used the old super glue and baking soda fix. It actually turned out very well and was really easy.
Someone had mounted the rear pickup ring backwards...the tall part towards the front! I fixed that.

The screw heads were all getting rusty, so I pulled each one and sanded it real quick and put it back in.

I sanded this all smooth and blacked it out with a marker

Intonated it, and adjusted pickup tona sweet spot.
Finally a stamp of approval, the Road Hag is done and ready to play.. so far it's very comfortable, I knew it would be the second I laid eyes on it.

love mockingbirds! theyre they only bc rich i really like these days. like that color too! looks like someone gnawed on the edge of the back :D

Sounds fine to me!

Do some gel superglue on those back dings, give it a little sand and buff and call it a day.

As for "Road Hag" there is nothing hag about that! Man - I miss the days before eBay of finding guitars that just needed a little TLC to go from snuggle toothed junkyard hound to Best in show...

A couple of additional points:
1. I like the pickups ion my Bich, but I'm gonna get Dual sounds eventually for fancy switching.
2. I'm not getting any kid of Bich ink period.

I may dabble in a little pickup swap down the road, we shall see.

Bob, you should get a bich tattooed on your head! That would rule!

I'd like to think someone used this to fight off some rabid dogs, or at least some nasty groupies trying to steal the guitarists love gun.
More than likely the guitarist was drunk and just fell down on the pavement a few times with it.... Probably used it to break into his trailer house after his wife locked him out or something.

I'll make up a cool story for it either way
