Finally got pics of my bass

I got this in the fall of last year, but I've been lazy about getting pics.

I've used it a few times through the Sans Amp into a PA. It's got some pretty cool tones - models like Bassmans (Bassmen? :laugh2) and Ampegs as well as a full range of user choices. I don't have much experience with bass amps, so I couldn't tell you how close the models are. It actually makes a cool little OD pedal for your guitar, too. You might not want to gig with it like that, but it's fun to play around with.

Back to the bass - I spent a couple of weeks at guitar stores, mostly GC, trying out the different types. I found out that I love the neck pickup on a Jazz Bass. So, I happened upon one at a pawn shop a few days later. There were some minor scratches, but no big dings or anything. I've seen "new" guitars in worse shape at GC. I talked the guy down a little and brought it home.

MIM Jazz bass. If I remember right it's an '01. Everything is stock as far as I can tell, except I believe the knobs have been changed. I don't remember those on J-Basses. The whole rig in the first pic (everything else was new) set me back right about $600. Not a bad deal at all if you ask me.

EDIT: I take that back. I already had the cable. :)

Those knobs actually did come stock on that bass. I had a Jazz of similar vintage, I think 2002, and it had the same.

Nice bass - I had a P-bass in that color once. :)

Cool. I like them better than the others. Maybe because they feel the same as my guitars. :D

Thanks for the compliments, guys. I've always liked that color, especially on a bass.

Nice Jazz Bass. I ended up with a Jazz Bass, too, about two years ago. I think there's something about the feel of a Jazz Bass that makes it more comfortable to guitarists than many other basses.

My MIM Jazz is an '04 and it does not have the top hat knobs. I wonder when they switched.

...paper-thin necks would be my guess.

it was the reason I fell in love with my Jazz Bass Special and then ended up selling it off.

Great bass but when I really got to playing it more like a bass player I found myself wanting more meat on the neck.

Now I own a G&L L-1505 and have a Lakand fiver that have the neck I was looking for.

Re: Finally got pics of my bass

Very nice! I'm in need of a new bass and a Jazz is one of the ones I'm looking at. Nice to hear you like yours.

Re: Finally got pics of my bass

I love the Jazz basses! I was waiting to see this pic, I couldn't get to it all day. Nice looking bass...

Re: Finally got pics of my bass

Huh? While I've certainly held beefier necks -- Warwick comes to mind most immediately -- I've also held thinner. The only real difference between a P-bass neck and a J-bass neck is the width of the nut, and thus the string spacing low on the neck. Front-to-back (at least within models of similar vintage) they're the same iirc. Same thing with the width at the neck-joint as well.

...paper-thin necks would be my guess.

Thanks for the replies. It's comforting when the bassists on the forum approve.

This is SOO much nicer than the Rogue bass my cousin was letting me borrow.

Whenever they officially changed the body wood from poplar or alder to just straight alder, I think somewhere around 2004. Fender also has overlapping serial numbers and parts runs too, so who really knows. :)

Re: Finally got pics of my bass

Jazz basses are the sweetest looking basses I have ever layed my eyes on. Awesome looking bass dude!
