Finally played a Fender Mustang Today

Saw a daphne blue sitting in the fender section today. I'd been wanting to try one for FOREVER!

AHHH that neck! I have smaller hands and so the short scale combined with the 7.25" radius, and a glossed-to-hell back... it just felt like home. That was a huge joy. None of my bends choked, which is good.

I quickly got used to the switching scheme, and I can say for sure now that I'd never use the "2 out-of-phase" position.

With the toploading scheme, and the almost stratty pickups, it struck me as in between a tele and a strat. With a pickup with more midrange, I could leave the switches glued to the bridge position (like I sometimes do with a tele) and probably not worry about it.

I think I'll have to buy a mustang at some point, and get seymour to overwind me a bridge pickup, and then string with 10s for a bit more meat.

Oh and I played it through a Tiny Terror combo. Heck I might have to get me one of those too.

I love 'em. Check out Duo Sonics too. There is a Squier one that I hear is pretty good, and it is only $300 or so. Plus it comes in my favorite Fender color scheme ever, desert sand with a gold-colored anodized aluminum guard.

see, I wasn't a fan of the squier duosonic colors. Plus, the necks and frets on squiers don't feel right to me anymore. Squier makes a decent product but i don't buy anything from them these days. I've owned 4 squiers and now I can say that they don't do it for me. but it's not that "made in china" phobia that so many internet trolls go on about on youtube comments LOL.

but yeah, daphne blue is one of my favorite colors.

I feel you on the vintage spec neck man. I'm not sure about the radius (although it does look pretty curved if you eyeball it) but my custom strat has a vintage nut wodth, and I absolutely love that neck. You'd do well to try out some Music Man guitars. I played a 25th anniversary model a few years ago and it was love at first strum. I will have a Reflex at some point, I will.

A friend of mine just got a '65 reissue Mustang. He had an original one way back when and had to get rid of it at some point in his life. It was obviously a decision he regretted having to make and he would always tell stories about that original '65 white Mustang with red pickguard. Fast forward to about 4 months ago and he finally broke down and bought a reissue. He beamed with pride and explained how it looked and felt just like what he remembered. After hearing all about it I was anxious to try it out. Meh. It does nothing for me. The sound, feel and controls just felt generic and cheap to me. Maybe if I spent more time with it but I just don't get it. To each their own though. It is a nice looking guitar in a retro modern sorta way.
