FINALLY re-tubed my classic 50 and....

Holy crap! I put it off for over a year, because i didnt think it would make much of a difference.... But i was "wronger than a goat ****in' a chicken.".... As they say.

Old setup: mesa EL84's, V1-ECC83S, V2-ECC83S, V3-EH 12ax7
New setup: JJ EL84's, V1-ECC803S, V2-ECC832, V3-ECC83S

All the "grit and grind" i previously complained about is completely gone. I used to get pissed, because the lead channel sounded harsh above 12 oclock. Now the breakup is sweet and smooth... ESPECIALLY with a covered PG+. Don't get me wrong, it still has an edgy high end, just not harsh.

I had it for sale on ebay and craigslist... Needless to say, it is no longer for sale.

What's an ECC832? By the way, I think that long-plate JJ you put in V1 is the best one they make. Good call.

The JJ 803S is one of my all time favourite valves for the V1 slot. Glad you are happy; happy guitarists are creative ones! :)

Dont wanna muck up his thread about tubes with a debate about how I know I work. So how about I do me and you do you and we all just get along.

I retubed my 30 and at the same time put an eminence speaker in it and it sounds like a diff amp. Much better.

Not sure what ECC832 represents but, in England, an ECC82 is roughly equivalent to a 12AY7. Lower gain than ECC83/12AX7.

I just looked it up. It's a 12DW7, which is one half 12AX7 and one half 12AU7. So it should definitely drop the gain in one of the stages.

I just re -tubed my Little Night with JJ's. Big improvement. I kept the no-name MIC tubes for backups (you never know).

I have JJ's in mine, as well, but I am using a 12AX7 for the power valve and did the C19 brightness mod; sounds much better than it did before!
